We stayed in this hotel over the weekend and would highly recommend it. The hotel has a four diamond rating and it is well deserved. The parking was great, as was the very warm welcome. Angela and her family / staff were very quick to offer us advice and help when needed and they were always very friendly. Breakfast was lovely and very filling. The building has a lot of character which is interesting and there is lots of books on offer and information on Whitby and its history. We really enjoyed our stay here and will defiantly be going back!

We have just spent the weekend at the Grove from 23rd-26th October and we really enjoyed it.
the owners are very good and attentive to yor needs.
The breakfast was excellent, too much for my wife and her sister.
As for the rooms they were comfortable and the tea trolley was always stocked unlike some places we have stayed.
We were at the top of the hotel and the sloping roof did not cause us a problem and there was no problem with the wardrobe.
We enjoyed the stay so much we have booked for next year and asked for the same rooms.

I have stayed at some great hotels, guest houses etc in my time, however you will not get the level of friendliness and welcome as you would here, whenever I have stayed in Whitby I have kept coming back to the same place (something I normally wouldn’t do).

The rooms are clean and airy, the living room is large enough to get together, the breakfast is hearty unless your eyes are bigger than your belly!
It has loads of parking….fairly rare in Whitby it is in a good location for the town and beyond.

Overall this place is what it should be a friendy welcoming hotel

We have been to a large number of hotels of three to five star status over the years. The Grove is a Englsh Tourist Council four star hotel but does not come close to any of the 3 star quality hotels we have used.

The room we were allocated was at the top of the house (third floor roof space). From road entrance of the hotel to our room was 50 steps, equivalent to four floors, and no lift. The room wall had a serious slope (I had to stoop to get into bed and take care getting up) and was very cramped.

The wardrobe couldn't be opened properly as the door hit the roof. The en-suite was tiny with a very small hand basin and anytime someone flushed their toilet we heard it.

Impossible to stand up whilst using the tea/coffee facilities and the only mirror in the room had nowhere to plug in hair driers etc.

Breakfast was adequate but not 'hearty' as advertised.

On a positive note staff were freindly.
