A lovely house, in a great location, right in the heart of Norwich, and such a welcoming place to stay. The rooms are exceptional, and the breakfasts set you up perfectly for a day sight seeing, shopping, arts or partying. We were in Norwich for the first time, and loved the city, meeting old friends, enjoying the festive shopping, bookshops, the Cathedrals, churches, and the pubs and restaurants. Also, wonderful to be able to do all this without using the car once we had arrived. Go on, spoil yourself by staying here, next time you come to Norwich.

Room Tip: Only two rooms - both brilliant.

A stay at Gothic House is reason enough to visit Norwich. I’d gladly swap some of our Scandinavian starkness for a touch of Gothic House charm and history; I loved being surrounded by all Clive’s beautiful things. They made a tremendous difference: they reminded me of the pleasures of civilization.
Although its secluded but central location and close proximity to the cathedral, antique shops and an array of restaurants make going out an interesting experience, I strongly suggest allowing sufficient time to stay in. Stay in and enjoy a delicious cooked breakfast served on beautiful china with coffee poured from an antique coffee pot, admire other antiques on display and chat with the knowledgeable Clive, who obviously knows just what it takes to run a first class Bed and Breakfast. Thank you Clive.

This was our first stay in Norwich and it couldn't have been better. Gothic House is like your own personal boutique hotel, cozily tucked away in a courtyard off of Magdalen Street. The attention to detail is excellent. On arrival our room was festooned with little extras like a jar of assorted biscuits, a decanter of sherry, a bowl of fruit, tea, coffee, fresh milk and a kettle. Just what we needed after a long flight and drive from London. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and well laid out with lovely furnishings, even a trouser press. They were quite comfortable and the shower provided lots of hot water. Because the house is off the street, it was quiet and we slept very well. Decoration of the house was tasteful, eclectic and interesting without being kitchy or twee. It's a building with history and it's presented in the best possible way. Clive is lovely and an excellent host; very friendly, honest, attentive, helpful and perceptive. GH also has private parking which is a definite plus. We like a traditional English breakfast and it was there to be had, but it was refreshing to have a range of other choices on offer to mix it up as well, particularly since we stayed for several days. The location is perfect. Literally just minutes walking to the cathedrals, the castle, the Lanes, Elm Hill. We almost never stay in B&B's, preferring self-catering apartments, but Gothic House was a lovely experience. Absolutely perfect. This is definitely the place to stay in Norwich!

Molton Brown products in your supremely comfortable private bathroom, the best night's sleep this side of La Mamounia, (fabulous bed) filter coffee, fresh fruit, a JAR of biscuits, whisky and water decanters in the bedrooms...attention to detail is second to none. Comfort a given. A beautiful private home that just happens to be about the best b&b I've stayed in, in the UK. And it's in the quirky, older part of Norwich (very central but with parking) where gastro pubs, wine bars, art galleries and antique dealers jostle with a more 'diverse' collection of shops...all in all nothing to not like. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Clive. If you like this, I think you'll also like the Old Parsonage near the Cheddar Gorge and Midsomer in Somerset, Farrington Gurney, I think is the village, which is the reason I put 'possibly' in the title of this review.

We recently spent 2 nights at the delightful Gothic House ('Strawberry Hill' 18th century Gothic) for which we have nothing but praise. On arriving in our first floor double room we found tea and coffee facilities including a choice of teas and FRESH milk plus fruit and biscuits. We then noticed a decanter of sherry and two glasses. Of course we can help ourselves I said - he wouldn't have put it there otherwise.... and I was right. The highest standards of comfort and cleanliness are maintained throughout. Thick, ample towels, dressing gowns and super quality bed linen. Breakfast is actually a banquet... Four Star standard without having to compete with dozens of other diners. Clive is a friendly, unobtrusive and attentive host, (ably assisted by Khmer the cat)...... he clearly loves what he is doing and it shows by the attention to detail of all aspects of Gothic House. With secure parking as a bonus and close proximity to the extensive medieval part of the town we wish that Norwich was easier to get to from the West Midlands so we could visit Gothic House every couple of months. A very special place..... well done Clive.... we'll be back.

We stayed for one night (main purpose of visit to research family history). The place is special; it is tucked away from the street and is beautifully and sympathetically decorated in original style. It is a short walk into the centre of Norwich, the cathedral, river and shops. Clive is very knowledgeable, observant and, that rare combination, witty and warm. The breakfast is good and Clive varies it to please. If you are interested in history (and not just family history but like, say, visiting National Trust properties, then this is very highly recommended.

Room Tip: I understand that there are two rooms; one double-bed and one twin bed. We had the double bed; very...
