On Saturday 3rd August 2013 I joined the Tour outside the Castle at about 2pm. I thought the bus looked different and could be fun. And it was.
This was a really interesting and different tour. The tour is miles better than the boring formula of the large commercially operated tour buses, with their recorded commentary. The driver's knowledge makes for a very entertaining and informing tour. And you can ask any questions you like. The size of the bus means that it can go where the commercial buses can't or don't. For example, the ability of the driver being able to reverse the bus down a narrow road to a towpath at the canal-side, or stop it down a side street so that we can get off and admire a medieval bridge, is just brilliant and marks it out as very unique. Also, he'll stop so that you can take photographs.
There is a relaxed approach to the route, which means that the advertised tour of one hour ended up taking 90 minutes.
I've decided that wherever I am from now, I will always seek out the private tour operator.
I can't recommend this tour highly enough.
