I really like Indian food. But sometimes it's good to try something a bit different from the usual chicken balti and lamb rogan josh; Namaste India definitely provides this.
Located on a small street between Castle Meadow and London Street, the restaurant is unusually shaped, with a high ceiling but only has about ten tables; it reminded me of a traditional shop with large windows. The is definitely one of those places where you need to study the options on the menu, including the drinks as they serve no meat or alcohol. However a mango lassi provided a very refreshing change from the more usual pint of Cobra.
After the popadums and pickles we started with spring rolls and tempura chillies, both clearly coming straight from the over, the latter being particularly delicious. For main I chose the sag paneer, which was very good but perhaps lacked the stronger flavours we're used to. However my friend's vegetable biriyani was much more flavoursome. The portions were just right; generous without having to eat too much or leave lots.
The service was always friendly and helpful; definitely worth a visit, but worth picking something spicier from the menu if you're used to the standard 'British curry'.
