Booked a table here some weeks ago. We clearly were the only couple anticipated as our was the only two places set for dinner. The pub is a bit shabby and basic, having said that the food was Ok. Not great but Ok.

My advice would be go somewhere else as there are many, many beter places to eat in and around Norwich/

Had a meal there recently. Bar maid nice but food very poor and over-priced. If hearty means too much poorly cooked pre-made/packet food piled high then not for me. Steak was no-where near rare and the chips were limp. Decor in the pub very dated and 3 pool tables made it feel like a youth club.

had a meal at the william iv pub as got a deal through groupon. it is a walk from the riverside (try to avoid the steep uphill climb through gas hill) and in a residential area. looking at the website, i was expecting a really posh restaurant, but the william iv was down to earth and welcoming. it seemed pretty busy with locals who frequent the pub and later i realised it was all you can eat curry night - wish i had redeemed my groupon on another day! for starters, my husband had potato skins and i had spicy chicken wings. both the starters were in very generous portions. the potato skins had melted cheese over them and also a variety of dips which were all very tasty. the chicken wings were tasty, but extremely spicy! i also didn't really enjoy the cottage cheese (i think?) on the side, though i liked the salad. for mains we both had the 12oz rump steak which was part of the deal. it came with chips, an onion ring, peas, a mushroom and grilled tomato. the steaks came out more well done though we had asked for medium rare and we weren't offered any sauces even with an extra charge. we were also not given any ketchup or BBQ sauce. as a whole, the food is good and very generous and the service is also friendly and welcoming. there should be a bit more attention paid to detail (there were no salt and pepper shakers on our table and we had to 'steal' them off another table, no sauces, etc) and while the pub as a whole had a nice, friendly feel, it also looked in need of some updating and cleaning. i would give a GOOD rating for the experience on the whole.

Great place to stay and a shortish walk into Norwich. Very welcoming landlady and a great full english breakfast. Nice terraced outdoor area at the back of the pub too.

The William IV is a pub that also provides B&B with five en-suite rooms. The location is good being 10 minutes walk downhill to the city. There is a large free car park. My room had obviously been recently decorated and, for a single room, it was huge. There was an en-suite with basin, toilet, shower, towels, towel rail, mirror and liquid soap. Everything was very clean. The room had a single bed, a tv, a table with biscuits and tea/coffee making stuff and a fridge. There was one radiator and the windows opened onto a rooftop - good ventilation and privacy but no view.

The landlady was extremely helpful and gave me key to the room and one for the back door, which meant I could come and go as I pleased without walking through the bar. She did warn me that there were some parties in the pub that night but that didn't worry me as I was out partying myself until late.

There was a full English breakfast (with tea/coffee and fruit juice) included in the cost and no set breakfast times, which is great if you want to lie in. The breakfast was very good and the landlady even brought me a paper to read while it was cooked.

The best part about this was the price - £32.50 total for one night. This has to be one of the best value places in Norwich and I would certainly stay again.
