met friends at the dove to have a meal.looking forward to having fish and chips as we had eaten there about a year ago, what a dissapointment the meal was.portion size has become much smaller,so we had pudding, these were all out of a box, certainly not homemade.will not be returning.

I regularly eat lunch at The Dove. The portions are generous and the quality is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The menu is wide enough to cater for all tastes but I recommend the fish; the beer batter is the best and the chips are always home made and cooked to perfection. R.

Stopped off for a spontaneous Sunday lunch, and wish we hadn't.

The pub sits at the side of the road between Bungay and Poringland so is perfectly placed for passing trade. The decor is in serious need of updating - the ladies' toilet is a 1970's horror show - and it could do with a good clean. The barmaid had to check if the had a table for 5. when she returned, she gave us directions into a completely empty marquee at the rear of the pub.

The only good thing was the price. We paid about £12 per person for two courses. Which just proves that you get exactly what you pay for:

Choice of 2 meats (no vegetarian option available at all). "Only do roast option on a Sunday".

Beef cut with a razorblade; pork seemed somehow pressed. vegetables predictably soggy: Watery gravy (the same for beef and pork): No condiments offered, When asked for horseradish sauce, the waitress managed to look surprised. The Yorkshire pudding was homemade and accompanied both the beef and port - no apple sauce or crackling in evidence.

The desserts were all bought in, and had been around for some time - cheesecake base was dissolved in the lake of cream which accompanied it.

When asked, the waitress very reluctantly agreed to get us some drinks, but could only remember two!

Staff were totally clueless - the barmaid couldn't care less.

There are other pubs in Poringland. We shall try elsewhere next time we pass through.
