Particularly nice in the summer with its garden. Good selection of beers from the brewery. Very pleasant staff.

Run by the clever chaps responsible for the fine beers of the Grain Brewery, the Plough on St Benedict's is a cosy, city centre gem of a place.

In the Winter you can snuggle up by the fire and enjoy their very, very excellent Grain Porter or Blackwood Stout (it makes a pleasant change to have such a difficult choice to make - both really are first class), if you're lucky, accompanied by a sizeable slice of sausage meat pie. The hot buttered rum is also to be recommended (obviously!).

Meanwhile, on warmer days and evenings, the well-kept beer garden to the back of the pub is usually equally bustling - often with music and occasionally a bbq - the perfect spot to settle whilst you enjoy a pint or two of their Blond Ash or Oak ale.

In a city that is losing its traditional "watering holes" to ubiquitous Thai and alternative culture eateries it was a delight to visit, after many years,an establishment that has re-engineered its future on the basis of an excellent pint of beer.
My wife and I visited The Plough and experiened a warm welcome, from the Landlord, his staff and the real fire in the bar.
For those wondering what a tradtional British pint - with several award winning choices - in an optimistic and eminnently social environment could be like, then a visit to the Plough is well worth the effort.

Good Beer just about says it all. No food except cold pie on offer as far as we could see and a cool wellcome from the young girl on duty. Ambience inside is pretty bleak and the usual bane of rubbishy 'music' emanating from too-loud speakers is unfortunately present. Prices for WBG are top-end. Nice garden at the rear if the weather is fine.
