Owner description: This city-centre theatre is known for its quirky, offbeat and brilliant shows, and its ever popular bar. A firm favourite across Norwich, the Playhouse brings big-name comedians, fantastic Fringe productions, magnificent music, amazing drama, great family shows, and so much more to the region. The intimate auditorium has just been refurbished, and is even more comfortable than before.

The Playhouse Bar is always a great place to visit and has a real mix of customers with lots of students thrown in. Always a good, buzzing atmosphere attracting the arty, bo-ho and even the suits, there is often a DJ on or a barbeque outside which has a large seating area by the river. Great for a pre-show drink or an evening with friends.

Although I have been to shows here, today I am reviewing the bar! We were booked on a punting tour nearby so as we were early popped into the Playhouse theatre bar for a delicious pimms as it was a warm afternoon. The outside seating area was packed and as we were not allowed to take our drinks to the nearby public seating areas due to laws about no drinking in public areas we sat inside. This gave us the opportunity to see all the artifacts around the pub including the amazing ceiling model display; quite ingenious! Obviously a very popular meeting place due to it being so busy.

The bar is a lovely, buzzy venue with a great outdoor seating area by the river. They've got a great selection of beers and all reasonably priced. The location just out of the main city means that it's a bit quieter, and makes an excellent stop on a walk along the river.

Norwich Playhouse is my favourite place day or evening it sits on the river in Norwich is central to everything. It has a long list of non-alcoholic drinks as well as alcohol, big bar snack collection. Great coffee. Comfy seating area. The best interior design in the UK. Large outdoor area. It also has music nights and homes the theatre with comedy and plays and music. A few feet from the art college so lots of interesting people hang out there. The staff our also very nice people and friendly and helpful.

The fact that I've spent what feels like the half of my time living in Norwich here and often come back up to four times in a single day is probably enough to say that I like it...
A few of the good things about it are: the people (made some really good friends here), the teas & free biscuits, the piano, the general atmosphere, the hot cider (in winter only), the copies of National Geographic, the flapjacks, croissants and meat rolls, Ceilingopolis.
