Apart from the Royal Albert Hall, this is the only theatre I've visited more than once. It's comfortable if a little cramped and the fixed wooden armrests between the seats don't suit my gammy left arm.

Generally the visibility is good and the sound systems work very well. We saw the Royal Air Force Band commemorating the Red Arrows 50th anniversary and we really enjoyed it. We weren't able to get wheelchair places as such but we were given aisle seats and the staff were very helpful in getting me in and out.

this was always a lovely local venue then some money was spent trying too hard to make it feel like a West end theatre.
It is too small in the circle bar to hold visitors getting both drinks and food and you have to push past people stood around to get to toilets.
Staff constantly went in and out of the side doors during performance by the stalls, letting streaming light into the eyes of us sitting in the circle.
They had no purpose as gone only seconds and not with any members of the public.
Not a great feel to the theatre now as too much space given to box office area, which you don't need on a performance night as most people already have their tickets.

We live barely five minutes' walk from the Theatre Royal and, as a consequence, are regular attendees. The performances never fail to please. Recently, we enjoyed the Glyndebourne Touring Opera and even more recently, "One Man, Two Guv'nors". In a couple of weeks' time I'm sure that we will enjoy, together with children and grandchildren, the Pantomime.

After a revamp a couple of years ago, the seats are more comfortable with better leg room but we miss the centre aisle(we understand the need to maximise the number of seats and hence revenue but still prefer a centre aisle). The toilets are vastly improved, more and better.

The restaurant is also good and, if you have reserved a table, you can return to it in the interval for pudding or coffee, as you may choose.

Has its own restaurant but if you prefer the more grand atmosphere book a pre theatre meal at The Assembly House next door.
A big theatre with lots of public areas.
