“Amazing night out”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

We had a 3 course meal with drinks on 10th July 2013. The service was exceptional, the food fantastic and the waiter's wine choices were perfect. We really couldn't have asked for a better night and will be back!

“A nice surprise”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

I visited here last weekend for a meal with 8 members of the family, we requested a round table and were seated in a lovely private dining part of the restaurant. On my initial thoughts of being told we were going to be eating here i was not expecting much if I'm honest, after living in Norwich forever i have never heard of anyone eating here and had expected it to be like any other typical hotel restaurant, i was very wrong to judge! This place was amazing, the food was excellent and so was the service!

The chef was able to cater to my pregnancy needs very well and the rest of the party seemed very happy with there chosen meals. The desserts here however are amazing, especially the honey comb! It's worth coming back fro that alone!

i will certainly be recommending this place to my friends and hope to return soon.

Dear Hayley_Lou83,

Thank you very much for your lovely review.

You will be delighted to hear that we have a brand new menu which was launched on Tuesday for you all to come down and try again, this time we think it's even better and we are using all local produce including a few Norfolk wines to boot as well. You will be even more delighted to hear that due to your feedback and many others we have decided to keep a couple of our most popular items on the menu including the honeycomb parfait.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Also why not consider us for any party needs you may have from christenings, birthday's, weddings etc, we are the perfect venue.

“Excellent but cool”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

The food and wine cannot be improved upon, either in relation to its presentation or its content. The chef is able to make anything interesting and delicious and you won't be disappointed, but it is not cheap. The service is also very good and courteous. The only reservation is with regard to the ambiance: there is a certain lack of cosiness and atmosphere, and the temperature is cool. In fact the first evening we stayed at the Maid's Head we did not eat at the Winepress because both external doors to the street were fixed open; the second night they were closed, but a rear door was fixed open - though at our request it was closed.

Dear Gansey7,

Thank you for your recent feedback in relation to your meal with us.

We were delighted to see that you enjoyed the food and service but obviously disappointed to hear that you found a lack of ambiance within the winepress. With the summer finally upon us, I believe the staff were probably trying to allow for some fresh air to flow through our restaurant and this obviously had a negative impact on this occasion. We have taken your comments on board and we will ensure that we bare it in mind for future.

We do hope that this has not had too much of an effect of on your impression on us and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

“Great food and attentive service”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

We ate here as part of the hotel package, the menu is varied and choosing was very difficult! The food was lovely and reasonably priced; 2 courses for between £20 - £30 depending on what you choose. Service was excellent and the restaurant has as many lovely period features as the hotel. Well worth a visit.

“Great Service, great food.”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We decided to drop in here for an early dinner after a day out in Norwich.
There was only one other person there when we arrived although it quickly filled up during our meal.
The staff were very pleasant and professional.
They said we were fine without a reservation and they could cater for my gluten free diet.
The restaurant is a beautiful space on the side of the hotel, which is very liaght and spacious with lots of interesting décor. There is a central 'fountain' and various statues and displays of wine around the room. It looks like an old courtyard that would have been open but which now has a clear roof.
The menu was interesting. To start, I ordered smoked mackeral with mixed beets and creamy horseradish sauce. My husband ordered a mushroom and leek canneloni with a pea sauce. My starter was beautifully presented on a black slate and the beets were yellow, orange and red. Very mild flavoured with a super creamy horseradish and some pea shoots as garnish. Delicious.
My husband's starter was unexpectedly presented like a folded pancake and he said there was a strong pesto flavour. It looked delicious and I was assured tatsed great, although not what he had envisioned!
We both had a mains of pork fillet and pork belly duo with dauphinoise potates and a cabbage ball. Again, presented beautifully, with everything in squares with a strip of crackling laid on top. The fillet comes on a slice of black pudding which I had to advise them was not gluten free. They were very apologetic and made up a fresh meal as I explained I could not eat it now it was 'contaminated' from the black pudding. They also took my husband's meal so we could both be served again at the same time.
The fillet was a little dry but all in all a great meal.
For dessert I had a honeycomb parfait with brittle and honeycomb pieces. It was enormous and creamy and tasted amazing.
My husband had the cheese board which had a good selection of cheeses with crackers, fruit, celery and chutney.
The staff lay your napkin for you and keep your wine topped up. It is these small things along with superb food that make all the difference.
Prices are decent and reflect the standard of service and food.

Dear Angie,

Thank you very much for your lovely review. I was delighted to see that you enjoyed your time with us and very proud to see how much you enjoyed your meal with us, but must apologise for the slight confusion with main course, I am glad it was resolved swiftly.

Once again thanks for your review and we hope to see you back soon, why not try our 5 course taster menu next time, an absolute treat not to be missed out on.
