We ended up in the Café at Norwich Cathedral during my father-in-law's visit to us to celebrate his 75th birthday & he wanted to see the Peregirnes nesting at the Cathedral. Very smartly dressed staff polite & friendly, much of the produce used is locally sourced which is always a plus, food was good and reasonably priced.

I liked the fact it was free but felt a little let down. I recently been to Canterbury's and London St.Paul's (which both are great) so maybe I was comparing all cathedrals! It was just a walk about on one level without a climb up the tower or into the crypt. The place is beautiful and the leaflet was good but it was lacking directions to guide us in order or sequence. I was hopping about back and forth!

The great open space of one cathedral is quite like another. It is the detail in the stained glass windows, the chapels and the memorials that make each one quite unique. The leaflet guide takes one systematically through each corner of the cathedral and relates them to the spiritual journey that many visitors are taking, inviting contemplation, thought or prayer at each location. If time allowed, a tour with a volunteer guide could have been even better. A visit to coincide with a service or an organ recital would have been a wonderful bonus. Outside a very modern block houses the restrooms and an upstairs restaurant serving a good range of food at very reasonable prices. Service is quick, but should there be time, a range of guides and newspapers are available to while away the time.

The Cathedral is in the middle of Norwich, but never the less is a haven of tranquillity. The Cloisters are magical and the shop has a good range of items for sale. The Hostelry provides a good range of food at average prices. I have visited on a number of occasions and will continue to do so.
Highly recommended!
