“Convenient & Clean”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

We spent one night at this hotel after traveling from London on the train. The hotel is super convenient to the train station, although we had a bit of difficulty in finding the front entrance when walking as we had to go through the parking lot.

Our room was quite basic - a double bed, chair, small desk & chair, and bath. The bed was comfortable with a selection of pillows, which was a very nice touch. The television had several channels, there was a kettle with everything needed for tea, and there was also a hair dryer. The bath did not have all of the soaps and lotions, but this is a basic hotel so I guess that is the norm.

Our room faced the road and I was concerned about road noise, but there were double windows so we really didn't hear anything all night :)

We ate breakfast in the hotel and the full English breakfast was good. It was certainly far cheaper than the one offered by our hotel in London!

We used the 30 minutes of free WiFi and I had no problems connecting or obtaining service.

The front desk clerk was very friendly.

All in all, we were happy with the hotel as it provided exactly what we wanted - a clean, comfortable, quiet place to stay that wasn't expensive.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and it is in the city centre opposite the main train station. One problem was the £3 per night wifi, as it was very slow. The staff were great and the location ideal. The room was clean and really nice with a good TV. Locally there is a Morrisons supermarket which does a good breakfast at a good price and a Weatherspoons which will provide the same and again at good prices with wifi thrown in!
In short stay at this hotel and enjoy the advantages.
Ps stay at the back for quietness and stay at the front for the entertainment!

Room Tip: Tell the staff what you want.

We stayed here for two nights, using it as a base to explore Norwich and to visit family in the area. Although the hotel gives the impression of being a little older, it was still absolutely dead on for our needs. The hotel in general, and our room in particular, were spotless.

Travelling with our three month old daughter, we were given a huge room on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the river. This room must be used both as a family room as well as a disabled-access room, and so we had plenty of space for the baby’s travel cot (provided by the hotel), as well as all the other baby essentials that seem to take up so much space. The travel cot was a good size, but we brought our own mattress from the baby’s cradle as we thought she would be more familiar with it, and we were glad we did as the provided mattress was a little thin and didn’t seem particularly comfortable.

The room was great but the location within the hotel was not ideal, as it involved a lot of traipsing up stairs and along a number of corridors: not easy when your arms are full of baby stuff, and I imagine not easy if you are in a wheelchair and have to negotiate a number of doorways.

We ate out of the hotel restaurant both nights, but had to eat in our room as we had put the baby to bed by then. Unfortunately the hotel does not do room service and you need arms like Popeye to carry the massive, laden tray the full length of the hotel and up a flight of stairs. Saying that, the food was of a very good standard: we’d recommend the Continental sharing platter, simply for the baked Camembert: delicious!

The hotel is easy to get to, the free car park is a massive bonus, and its location for the city centre is ideal for exploring. We’d definitely go back.

Room Tip: Bring your own baby mattress for the travel cot

We have just returned from an impromptu night away at this hotel. We got a very large family room which partially overlooked the river. The free parking is great (have previously stayed at the Travelodge almost opposite which suggests guests use Rose Lane car park....not ideal as you need to top up the pay and display ticket early in the morning and is obviously not free).
The attached pub/restaurant is a busy venue. The location is great, 5 minute walk to town or football ground (and supermarket etc). Breakfast was busy (we arrived at peak time) but the staff were lovely and worked their socks off. Would really suggest a coffee unit/machine as in many other Premier Inns due to the busy nature of the hotel. The staff were constantly struggling to keep the cups, milk etc topped up and numerous people were moaning about this-didnt bother us as we were not in a rush but to save the sanity of the staff from some really rude folk I would add this. For a base in Norwich cant fault it-so much so we've just booked a little trip for some Xmas shopping!!

We used the Nelson as a base for the Nescafe's Golf Society spring golf weekend. Rooms were large, clean and well equipped. We were booked on a B&B and enjoyed a good breakfast each morning. The hotel is in a good location so we didn't need to go far for food and drink. The hotel also has a good bar and restaurant with good friendly and helpful staff. We will return, excellent value and we managed to avoid Lenny Henry and the Yellow Ducks....phew!!!

We stayed here on a friday saturday night and we had a great time!! The hotel is in a great location and also has a free car park which was a bonus!. I can understand why some people say that they often had a distrurbed nights sleep as it did seem to get rather lively on a weekend, however we were at the back of the hotel over the carpark and couldn't really here anything. The resturant joined on is lovely we had steak and it was cooked to perfection and the staff in thier were lovely on hand if you needed anything but not constantly asking is everything ok just as you take a bite!!. The hotel is very premier in but as i said in a lovely place and freindly staff. We will definatley stop again and have already recommended it to other people.

Room Tip: The rooms looking over the garden with a balcony looked nice although we were not lucky enought to h...

Access for those not arriving by car (maybe at the railway station just across the road) is difficult and badly signposted. You need to walk right round the hotel to find the entrance - a bit of a nuisance when carrying luggage and there is no actual foot path so you are walking in the car park.

The room was cold - even with the heating turned up beyond my normal setting.

The layout of the breakfast room was fragmented and tables were so close together it was difficult to move around. There did not seem to be enough staff to operate properly. There were no eggs and a queue waiting for more.

There was only one set of towels in a double room.

The decor appeared to be trying to be up market but the actual facilities did not achieve the same standard.

Not as good as some Premier Inns I've stayed at. At £29 a room - adequate. At the £80 or £90 we actually paid poor value.
