I have never written a review before, however my experience of Chez Denis was so disappointing I felt a need to write one!
I was excited about eating here having seen the menu, and with a Groupon voucher I thought it was a steel.
When arriving however, not only does the place look out-dated and shabby, it looked closed!
The service was very poor: We were not asked for drinks until we prompted the waitress to ask!
The service was extremely slow: We waited for over an hour for our starters, without even being brought bread. This, obviously due to there being only one waitress for the entire evening! When we did eventually get our food, it was disappointing and horribly over-priced!
We couldn't wait to leave! We were so relieved, that with a Groupon voucher, we paid only half the menu price, and felt sorry for other diners being completely ripped off!
Don't go!

I visited Chez Denis with a couple of chums who have Caribbean relations and had mentioned that it had been good on a previous visit.
Very welcoming. We were early for an early evening booking, but this was handled without any fuss. The restaurant soon filled up (it was a Saturday evening in January) and although there was only one person cooking and one doing front of house (I think the owners were away on a brief holiday), the service and the food were both excellent.
It reminded me a little of how restaurants were 10-20 years ago - quite generous portions, well-sauced and perhaps a 'little' old fashioned, but the food was lovely.
For the record, I had the Crab Neige Frit (soft shelled crab) and the monkfish in coconut milk. The latter was a little odd initially, but rather 'grew' on me, and I enjoyed everything they served. My companions had other fish, steak and veggie options and all were v well-received.
Not somewhere that I would probably have thought to select myself, but actually thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely go back.
