“A great place to stay”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We had such a good time at this hotel. We stayed for two days with a seven-month old baby - not always the most stress-free of activities. However, the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, really going out of their way to make sure we had a great trip. The restaurant and bar were lovely, the food was delicious (go for the scotch eggs!) and the room looked recently refurbished. The bathroom was perhaps a little shabby, but it was perfectly fine and could have been next on the refurbishment list. When you travel with a small baby, some places seem to go out of their way to make you realise what an inconvenience you are being. This was completely the opposite, we were warmly welcomed and we had a delightful trip. If it wasn't so far away, we would definitely have paid a return visit.

Room Tip: We asked for a room where our baby monitor would reach as far as the restaurant, which it did.

We stayed at the Annesley House Hotel when collecting our daughter at the end of the university year. We found that it had achieved the balance of friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency. It is exceedingly well maintained and the gardens are very pretty. We were in the annexe a few steps away from the main building. Large umbrellas are provided in case of rain when you are moving between the two buildings. The room was immaculate though not large, although the bathroom was small. However, this may be a reflection of working with an older Georgian property! We decided to eat in, although there are so many restaurants in Norwich to tempt you, and the food was excellent as was the service and all the staff were again helpful, welcoming and friendly. We intend to stay here when visiting again although we will book earlier next time and also go for a special room in the Coach House or the Garden House.

Room Tip: Either book more in advance or go for an executive room..

We stayed 3 nights here, child free, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I was called the day before arrival and offered a free upgrade to the Garden House suite but they wanted to make sure we were ok with a shower as opposed to bath. So pleased we accepted as it was a beautiful separate self contained building across the garden, featuring a lounge / kitchen downstairs and a lovely big bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Spotlessly clean with quality fittings and bed linen. Bath robes were a nice touch too. The bed was huge but perhaps a bit soft for me although my wife loved it.
After a good sleep, breakfast was served in the lovely conservatory opposite. There was a nice selection of fruit and cereals on the buffet and what we had from the kitchen was really good.
We didn't eat here in the evenings but what we saw of the whole hotel was excellent; genuinely happy, helpful staff running a well maintained comfortable hotel. We wouldn't hesitate in staying here again not least as it is in a quiet position but less than 10 minutes stroll from the city Centre.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for the garden hose suite if you like your privacy and space.

I stay here once a month on business, last month being my 1st. I was tempted to write a scathing review as the room I stayed in was a single with no room to work in, however the food here was excellent! I'm glad I tried staying here again! This time I stayed in the block across the car park, room was huge, comfy bed, workspace, jacuzzi bath, completely different to the previous room! The food is fab, I try to pick something new on the menu each time, the fish and chips with the homemade tartare sauce is to die for! Staff are so friendly and it's genuine, you can tell when it's forced! Overall I'm glad my work stopped using the very corporate holiday inn although I didn't think so at the time! A short stroll into the city makes it even better! Homely and friendly!

We turned up at 9pm after a long drive and with no booking. Very friendly and helpful Night Manager who gave us one of the superior rooms in the Coach House at a discounted price. After a few drinks in the bar - served by the same friendly Night Manager - we went to our room. All the locks are operated with a card that you swipe - so nice and easy as well as secure. The room was a good size, as was the bathroom with a large shower which was almost as good as the one at home! Bathrobes were available. The bed was large and comfortable. A good cooked breakfast was served by more friendly staff members, in a newly refurbished (at least it looked recent) conservatory/breakfast room. Everything in the hotel was clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and we will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Norwich.

Just returned from a 2 night stay - didn't like having to walk across the car park to the main building for breakfast. Luckily it wasn't raining. The step into and the stairs inside the 'white building' were steep. Bed was extremely soft. One of the vanity lights in the bathroom was out of order, the window in the bathroom didn't have a catch so couldn't be secured. A bottle of water from the mini bar was £2.50 for a bottle worth less than 80p. Choice, quality & quantity of breakfast was just okay. Lots of light bulbs out in the main lounge area. Compared to other Best Western's we have stayed in this hotel was sadly lacking.

Location was good. Staff were pleasant. Good car parking. Quiet.

Honestly? Wishing we'd saved +£50 and booked into a Premier Inn.

I have stayed at the Annesley House several times on business between New Year and Easter. Whilst it operates under the Best Western umbrella, it feels just about as far removed from a chain-hotel as possible. The configuration of the hotel (several Georgian buildings, some of which are interlinked) means that there are different types of rooms which, whilst not luxurious, are clean and characterful and are perfectly adequate for a short stay. Service is friendly and efficient and the location is just about perfect - walking-distance from the City centre and right on the A11 (but set back enough so that there's little or no traffic noise) for a quick get-away after work.

The lack of a gym or pool may limit its appeal to long-term business guests but for short stays it's ideal and good value for money.
