“Superb City Centre Hotel”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Visited on business and I must say what an excellent choice, hotel right in the centre with parking, rooms very good - view a bit limited but one of the oldest hotels in Norwich and the history within and around the hotel excellent. Breakfast very good with excellent staff. The surprise is the old 'Snug' bar - leather seats, fireplace etc - what a gem! Back shortly!

Dear Colbyco21,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

We were extremely pleased to read your feedback. We are actually the oldest hotel in Norwich and believed to be the oldest hotel in the UK (The debate is currently running through the country). It is a shame you did not get wonderful views of Norwich Cathedral on this occasion but make sure you book a room with a view on your next stay, you will not be disappointed.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

I was bought here by a friend for my birthday treat and it was lovely to find a bottle of fizz and chocolates in our room.

The room was a standard twin in the newer part of the hotel with a view of the cathedral spire and the hotel's free car park. It was spacious, clean and well appointed.

Dinner at the wine press restaurant, a lovely setting, was tasty tho a little expensive. They claim to offer 40 different wines by the glass.

Located in the old part of Norwich called Tombland, it's perfect for visiting the cathedral, craft and antique shops as well as the centre and many restaurants and cafes.

Staff were mostly friendly and gave good service, with the exception of breakfast when we felt as though we were invisible. Breakfast choice was somewhat limited but this may be because we arrived towards the end of service.

Overall an enjoyable stay.

Dear jnofrills,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

I was delighted to see that you enjoyed your time with us however I was obviously disappointed to read your comments on breakfast. We often get rave reviews about our breakfast offering and service (Review below as an example) but it seems as if we failed you on this occasion of which I must apologise. We do indeed offer over 40 wines by the glass, allowing guests to experience expensive wines in affordable portions. I was also disappointed to see that you found our restaurant expensive. It may be slightly more expensive than a chained restaurant but this is because we have an award winning menu with fantastic, fresh, local produce, something which we believe passionately about as opposed t some competitors where you will need experience such foods.

We hope these points did not tarnish your stay too much and hope that you will return in the near future.

We stayed at the Maid Head for one night and I must say the welcome was very warm. The staff were smart, on the ball and very helpful. The double room we were allocated was at the rear of the building. It was super clean, quiet with what I can only describe as a Super Kingsize bed. The only down side was I could not hook up to the hotels Internet WiFi. I took my iPad to reception but they couldn't hook it up either, they told me they had a problem, lets hope they've got it sorted. The breakfast was top notch with a good selection on offer. All in all we enjoyed the nights stay and would return anytime. Lovely Hotel slap bang in the centre of Norwich..!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear. They are very quiet, no traffic noise.

Dear Ipswichdev,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

I was delighted to see that you enjoyed your time with us however I was disappointed to see that your wifi did not connect. We fitted an upgrade to our system yesterday which will hopefully alleviate any such problems in the future.

We hope to welcome you back soon.

We stayed here for one night after attending our son’s graduation at UEA and was very impressed with the hotel, the staff and the food served.

There was a hiccup when trying to book as we were told a room was available at £192 room only but not the Summer Treat package that we wanted which was £139 including dinner, breakfast and Prosecco and chocolates in the room. On that basis we were going to look elsewhere but this was apparently an error and we were able to book the package.

The building is a wonderful mix of old features and modern facilities and has a fascinating history, comprising six former separate buildings. The location, by the cathedral and the most interesting parts of Norwich is ideal and the free parking is a bonus.

Our room (403) was on the top floor and enjoyed a view of the cathedral (and car park). Although a standard room, it was spacious and comfortable.

It’s great to find a well-run family owned hotel and we left feeling that we had enjoyed excellent service throughout the hotel and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We stayed at the Maids Head Hotel on a freezing cold snowy March day, and after parking in their spacious free car park, we were pleased to find a warm welcome from the very helpful and professional receptionist.
We had opted for their Historic Norwich package which for £150 per night had included free Thornton’s chocolates and a bottle of prosecco on arrival in one of their feature rooms, two free passes to Norwich castle, a £25 allowance per person towards dinner in their beautiful WinePress@Wensum restaurant, and breakfast for two also in the WinePress@Wensum restaurant the next morning.
Well I must say, even though I am a right mean bugger I thought the package was good value for such a nice room and such excellent food. Every part of the hotel oozed class, from its pleasant comfortable sitting areas, to its beautiful spacious restaurant, and I would go so far as to say it was the finest hotel I had stayed in for year. The location was excellent, just a stone’s throw away from the Cathedral, and a five minute stroll from the city centre with its market and many shops. I honestly could not find a single fault with any aspect of our stay apart from, next time we stay with you, could you do something about cold wintery weather?

Free Wi-Fi and parking, excellent staff, superior hotel and restaurant with exceptional food, means the Maids Head Hotel deserves your consideration next time you stay in Norwich.
Highly recommended!

This hotel was very well placed for our short stay. The welcome was good and the staff were friendly and well trained. Our room was very comfortable, spacious and with a bath and shower; the bath was very welcome after our walk along Peddars Way. I had requested a quiet room and this room was beautifully peaceful; after a good night's sleep I awoke to the chiming of the bells which was a delight.

I've stayed at this hotel, and many others in and arround Norwich over the last eight months. Thi is the one for the City, a free parking place for visiting all the central area, includeing the Catherdral.
The rooms vary between the old and new parts of the building. The best (IMHO) rooms are those that overlook the hotel car park, with a great view of the catherdral spire and the famous Peregrines. Thanks you Denise (and all housekeeping) for making my room a pleasent, airy place to stay after work. Food is good too, the variety of breakfasts foods exceptional, and the bar in the evening is a quiet place to sample a real beer, specially brewed for the Maids Head. Thanks to Richard amd Michelle for making me want to stay in!

Room Tip: Floors 2, 3 & 4 in the new part, overlooking the car-park, really quiet.
