“Couldn't fault it”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

What a lovely experience , we all had the tasting menu and every course was faultless. The service was perfect, not too much but always on hand. Richard Hughes came out to see us twice which we thought was very good. The atmosphere was just right with the tables nicely spaced apart . The timings between courses were also just right to make an unhurried relaxed evening

“A truly lovely meal”
Reviewed April 4, 2014

The food we had last night was really lovely, flavoursome and beautifully presented. I had a salad to start which might sound dull but it was delicious, my main course also and the other meals also tasted fab. We have been before but I think it is just getting better.

“Yet another great meal!”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

For ten years now I have been enjoying meals at the Lavender House and last Sunday was no exception. The food, wine, service and friendly atmosphere never fail to impress. Thank you Richard, all that passion and dedication shines through!

“Cookery school experience”
Reviewed March 22, 2014

poor and again poor customer service.
Start time 09:45, we arrived at 09:30, we found our way into into the bar where there was coffee served and tea on request.

After about 10 minutes, as I don't drink coffee or tea I asked for a glass of water, I was offered a glass of tap water 'is this OK' ... My husband had paid £140 for this privelidge!

We spent 20 or so minutes listening to the ramblings on about the history of the house/restaurant and then taken into the kitchen. We were told what we would be cooking. We were shown how to chop an onion and a carrot. The chef described the herb thyme as rosemary until I pointed out it was thyme! When preparing the dessert all our ingredients were already prepared (Good)! but I found a piece of crumpled paper in my ingredients, I handed it to the chef .....He joked, I was NOT impressed. During the 'school' we were asked what we would like to drink I asked for a glass of water ..... not forthcoming until I asked again half an hour later. Lunch provided was mediocre, a demitasse of thick soup, Chicken with new potatoes, mushrooms and wild garlic and a jus. I did enjoy the chicken but others found the jus too salty. The dessert was sticky toffee pudding...... Horrid!!!! The caramel sauce was gritty, the pudding was so thick I could have rendered the outside of the house. I had to ask for water on the table yet again.

Finally for £140 (and I took my friend so another £140) we took away the food we had prepared, had a middle of the range luch and shown how to chop an onion and carrot. We didn't even get to keep the aprons!!!!

This experience wasted half a day and sadly I won't get that time refunded.... never again!

“Wish I could give 6 stars”

One of the best meals we've ever eaten. Taster menu just perfection from start to finish complemented by good wine and excellent service. Superb in every way. Yes it was expensive, but totally worth it.
