“Blissful - I'm tempted to give you a money back guarantee on this lovely place”

The idea of a country home in Norfolk has always tempted me but now I have a better idea. I'm just going to come to 38 St Giles every week-end I possibly can.

I was in the area reviewing hotels and other options for a US celebrity client my company is working with and after some toing and froing we chose to make Norwich our base.

The property itself is stunning. It's Georgian and has been lovingly restored by William & Jan. I had the good fortune to see a couple of different rooms which were all charming and decorated with different unique pieces. Bang & Olufsen TVs and Occitane toiletries come as standard, as does a different freshly baked cake every day - try and catch the exquisite Madeira Cake. The rooms are impeccably clean, the beds comfortable and the bath linens fluffy and decadent.

38 St Giles pay great attention to details. They preserved a 19th century door closing mechanism in one room and in the breakfast room use cups, saucers and plates by local ceramicists and potters. Then there's the art. In the style of La Colombe d' Or where van Gogh and others left works in exchange for meals, here you can discover of brilliantly talented young artists from the area.

The B&B is steps away from the heart of Norwich and some great restaurants. It also offers access to car park and the staff let you know when you can park safely on the street. Of course they were also happy to find out our dining tastes and make appropriate recommendations and arrangements.

Breakfast was as dreamy as the rest of the place. Homebaked bread, fresh granola, homemade jams and the most yellowy you'll ever see.

On a couple of occasions I asked for William's assistance with different things to surprise my partner and every member of the team treated my requests with grace and ease.

I realize that this kind of praise can make one suspicious so here are the negatives:

1. The cable that goes into the B&O in the breakfast room - paint it white to match the wall.
2. William you and your team are a hard act for the rest of the B&B/hotel industry to follow.
3. On Sunday when our stay was over, we had to leave.

I've been in the luxury travel business for over 20 years and have stayed in myriad incredible properties the world over. Increasingly this kind of exquisitely understated property and the service William and his team offer, is redefining the kind of luxury that works for me and most likely for you.

Have a lovely stay.

Room Tip: I loved both the attic room facing the garden and the Brown Suite facing the street.

Booked for one night whilst visiting Norwich.
Very warm welcome with some fantastic home made cake waiting for us in our room.

The rooms are very nice with a comfortable bed with a very high spec bathroom, I have to say this is the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in!
The only downside was the TV, although a very nice TV the viewing angle was not very good.

This is the only thing I could fault and I will hopefully be visiting this little gem of a hotel very soon again.

We enjoyed our one night in 38 St Giles.

The location is good, within walking distance of most of what a tourist will want to see in Norwich and a £5 ride from the train station. The building is a sensitive conversion of a Victorian terraced townhouse and has an old-fashioned quirkiness and charm (which might wear off in a long stay). There are no public areas, apart from the somewhat functional breakfast room.

Our ‘large double’ room was indeed large, effectively a suite, and included a small sitting room. The room and the (shower-only) bathroom were well-equipped, with good storage and a state-of-the-art (and somewhat incongruous) Bang and Olufsen TV. But the overall impression was of comfortable living in a different century.

Breakfast was a good choice of cooked-to-order options.

The proprietor was pleasant and helpful and we appreciated his offer of afternoon tea on arrival.

There is free and uncomplicated WiFi throughout the building.

At c. $210 per night, 38 was not a bargain but it’s an experience we enjoyed and recommend.

We stayed 3 nights in the front first floor suite with our daughter for her graduation and William was as accommodating as always - nothing was too much trouble. We were provided with a delicious portable breakfast of bacon sandwiches as the graduation started very early and late on Sunday night, William produced two aloe vera leaves to treat a rash on my daughter's legs! Everything about No 38 is perfectly provided, the rooms are beautiful and so comfortable, the breakfasts are amazing and the home made cakes provided at tea time are wicked! We will miss our trips to Norwich and will probably still go, just to stay at no 38! And explore this wonderful city from this brilliant town centre location.

Room Tip: Tell William what you want and he'll advise which room is best for you - or check out the websit...

I stayed here 4 nights with colleagues who stayed just 3. Each room has its own individual charm with light design touches blending with the charm of this lovely renovated building. The breakfasts are the best I've had anywhere. Well located and maintained. I hope to return some day soon.

Stayed here on a short break in Norwich with my wife. We arrived earlier than we should have but were welcomed very warmly with a freshly made cup of tea and home made biscuits followed by home made cake in the afternoon. The location was great as it is very near the centre of Norwich so you don't really need your car unless venturing further afield. The room on the top floor was a good mixture of old and new with a modern bathroom and an old creaky bedroom. The room was a good size and pretty quiet despite overlooking the street. The bed was a little too soft for me but I am sure most people would love it. The breakfast was very tasty and well cooked and the owner was very friendly even letting us leave our car in the dedicated private car park after we had checked out so we could have another walk around the town. Recommended for anyone staying in Norwich. One suggestion though...Sky TV would be much better then the current Freeview.

This is well situated in a pleasant part of Norwich. The room was tastefully decorated and equipped with a very comfortable bed, and all furnishings, bathroom and TV of the highest quality.
Spotlessly clean and the best breakfast menu I have come across in a long time. Very helpful and friendly hosts. Can recommend wholeheartedly and would certainly go again should the occasion arise.
