The room was adequate, but absolutely freezing, I could see my breath when I first walked in - totally uninviting when you first arrive - you have to put the heating on yourself - they are obviously on a cost-cutting exercise, albeit at the expense of the customer's comfort.
Staff were pleasant in the restaurant, but the food was vastly overpriced - one pint of lager along with pie and chips came to just under £19 - be prepared because there is nowhere else to go unless you are prepared for a walk. And I'm sorry but if I have to pay £19 for a basic evening meal I expect wifi in the room. There was no 3G signal, and whist there is wifi in reception, it is a small reception and considering the number of rooms in the hotel it's not surprising that you can't get somewhere to sit with your laptop/device.

We stayed at the sporting lodge, simply because we were looking for a fun themed night. We probably wouldnt have chosen it for the hotel itself as it was basic and could do with re-styling and with better technology!

The sporting lodge hotel is beside a busy motorway and therefore isnt the best for location and surroundings!

However the sporting lodge hotel came " top trumps" regarding value for money and entertainment!!! It was £40 for an entainment night( a singer and disco), a 3 course dinner, a night stay, unlimited access to the spa and gym and a breakfast in the morning!!

Overall I would recommend this entertainment night to everyone as it is amazing value for money and garentees a 100 per cent amazing night!!!

This hotel has a reasonably good and sizeable gym and the restaurant food was great - good choice and well presented. On the downside there was no Internet access the night I stayed, I thought the rooms were a bit shabby and checking out was really slow.

We stayed for a family wedding. The wedding organisation was excellent. Alison kept us on track and made sure all ran smoothly.

Food in the restaurant and for the wedding was superb. The bar and restaurant had great atmosphere. Pool and gym facilities kept us entertained.

Accommodation was basic. Rooms a bit 'tired'. 2 rooms for our family had broken beds. But the staff handled it well. The layout of the hotel means you can have long walk to the rooms.

Overall a good place for a wedding and the weekend package is great value.

I have visited here for a wedding reception. The food and service were good as was the atmosphere. There is also a nice little outdoor area if the weather is nice enough. The restraunt area also looked nice.

Stayed here first week of October with a coach party for four days, food was ,at best terrible, beef/turkey dinner, with red cabbage , corn on the cob ,and ratatouille?, this remained the pattern for the stay,(bribed with a glass of wine on final night, after 3rd complaint from tour company) our room looked old and tired, mattress was filthy, god knows what bodily fluids had been spilled into it, (did not find this out until leaving), aaaargh, and as for the 4* rating, the only ones i saw where through the hole in curtains ,in the night sky!

Stayed here on the way to Edinburgh Tattoo. Room was comfortable with all facilities. Food was very good for a hotel of the 'Premier Inn / Travelodge' style. All good there then.

On the downside, the restaurant has to be accessed by an outside (covered) walkway but this is also used as a shelter by smokers from the restaurant and the adjoining function suite. When dining in the restaurant you have to go and get your drinks yourself from the bar. And when there is a function on, the restaurant bar can be very busy, especially with only two bar staff.

Overall though, better than expected and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Downstairs, away from the function room.
