Taking a trip across the river Tees is a unique experience using this bridge. It does not take long and is something you can not do anywhere else in England. There is a charge for the crossing, either by car or per person if walking. There is a small museum at the Middlesbrough side of the bridge giving all the statistics. The bridge is used throughout the week but depends on the weather. You used to be able to walk right across the top but this has been stopped. However they do organise bungie jumps from the top for charity on a weekend.

As a visitor to Middlesbrough dont leave without a trip across the bridge for a unique experience. At very least drive right up to it and let it intimidate you, that said you can see it from most parts of Middlesbrough if you dont have time

If you come to Middlesbrough you must make a point of seeing this bridge. One of only 3 left in the world i believe. There used to be one at Runcorn and one over St Lawrence seaway in Canada and thats it !!
Great design in its day to allow tall ships up the river to Stockton.
Now not used much, but great nevertheless, a must see and ride.

The transporter Bridge at Middlesbrough is one of only two of its type, the other one is situated at Newport . It has a platform suspended from the bridge which carries pedestrians and vehicles across the river Tees and is operated by a person in a control room situated above the platform. It is also possible to climb up steps (quite a lot) and cross the bridge on foot, giving views over a wide area from the top.For people interested in bridges, this is a must, and it is possible to visit the nearby visitors centre, where you can learn something of its history.
It was built high as years ago sailing ships used to travel under it to warfs further up the Tees.

if you visit this bridge you must climb the steps and walk over to the other side, workman used to do this carrying their bikes to save money,it used to be a place to commit suicide, but by the time you,ve climbed to the top you wouldn,t have the energy!
