Description: If you love fine wine and fine food - in that order - then you should run and not walk to Vivat Bacchus right this minute. Dedicated to the god of wine, Vivat Bacchus is not only a place for fine dining. It has a passionate dedication to the best of the grape. You will be invited to visit the three wine cellars, one each for red, white, and champagne, to choose bottles to complement your food. Take your time - they hold around 6000 bottles with 250 different labels. Later you might like to visit the cheese cellar to choose among eighty local and imported cheeses to savour at the end of your meal. Oh! The meal! Right. The Head Chef is Robert Staegemann, formerly of Launceston Place Restaurant, who offers a menu that's a scrumptious amalgam of classic French and dishes influenced by cooking cultures from all over the world. Choose starter of cured foie gras with plum chutney and toast, main course of roast breast of guinea fowl with papardelle pasta, crispy pancetta and red wine glaze, and pud of banana creme brulee, or just the aforementioned cheeses with port. The ambience is smart and sophisticated with decor that will pleasantly remind you of wine cellars decorated with labels and labelled bin ends.

“Great atmosphere, great food”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

The third visit to this wonderful restaurant. The wine list is very good but be prepared to pay for quality. The carpaccio, rustic tomato soup, springbok burger and pork cutlets were fantastic. To round things off there is the cheese room where you can make a selection from a very fine collection. A great evening out.

“Kangaroo and Chocolate”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Great little place and the staff were excellent. The owner was constantly on the floor and chatting to people and making sure everythung was running smoothly. I had the Kangaroo steak which was delicious and to follow there is the chocolate dessert which you have to order as there it is really served in a clever way..can't give the game away but its a must. Good extensive wine list and wide range of prices as well. I was there at lunchtime but think it would be great after work as well. They also run a reward card which is a nice idea and you get points for every time you eat there which you can then redeem(however worth noting that in order to be able to start redeeming your points you will have spent the equivalent of £250 there!, but that would only take a couple of visits.)

“Great atmosphere, super wine”
Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

Went just before Christmas. The food was really good but what I remember in particular was the excellent wine with a very knowlegeable owner/manager. Busy, with atmosphere and good place to people watch.

“Good food, but get there early”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Get there early if you want one of their fresh made pies! A highlight of the menu but they go quickly. Wide wine selection and a speciality cheese room are other highlights
