“Authentic Chinese”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

people come from a long way to visit this restaurant run by three partners. Extensive menu is not the cheapest but portions are good and is still value for money. You will not be disappointed and if in doubt ask any of the waiters who will make sensible suggestions.

“Terrible food, poor customer service..”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

Ordered the sizzling pork from Thai Pan. Expected pork. What was delivered would be more accurately described as veins/arteries, joint tissue and gristle (attached photos for your enjoyment). Upon complaining, numerous members of staff refused to replace the dish or offer a refund. They hang up the phone when you try to complain, the only thing worse than their customer service is the quality of their ingredients.Avoid this restaurant unless you enjoy consuming pig's veins and connective tissue.

“Reliable, popular, long-established local Chinese”
Reviewed March 24, 2012

You would not cross town for a meal at the Tai Pan, perhaps - but for SE Londoners wanting a reliably good Cantonese-style Chinese meal with excellent, friendly service, then this restaurant is really worth knowing about.
The staff are so nice, the place is always packed and the dishes are very competently executed without there being any granny-frightening or wallet-worrying surprises. We have eaten here several times and tend to stick with a similar menu...the mixed hors d'oeuvres have particularly good dry ribs and prawn toasts; the duck with pancakes is always excellent; and their chicken and seafood main dishes very good too. I find sweet and sour pork too much these days, but my children assure me it's the best they have ever tried.
We were celebrating a birthday on our latest visit and not only were there complimentary liqueurs offered with coffee, the whole restaurant was led in a chorus of "Happy Birthday" and my mother-in-law presented with a box of chocolates.
Like so many suburban restaurants, the Tai Pan's premises and frontage are neat and unassuming rather than bold and unmissable. It's a real jewel nonetheless.

“Take Away at its best”
Reviewed March 13, 2012

I used the take away service at this Resturant. Not only did I get a warm welcome the staff were
friendly, polite and helped recommend some dishes. Whilst waiting I had a drink at the bar, read the paper and was given some Prawn Crackers (nice touch!). My food was kept warm until I had finished my drink and given a warm send off. The food tasted great, lots of flavor. When in the area I would return and also recommend.
