It is said to be the oldest wine bar in London. I have visited it several times and always had a great experience along with the people that visited it for their first time with me. Great variety of very good wines but of course the venue is the thing that makes it unique. The whole interior is very old and half of it is an actual catacomb shaped cellar that creates a mystic atmosphere of the old, where you can sit under candle lights and enjoy your wine. It will definitely impress anyone you bring along from its uniqueness.

This place is so special, we visited here twice in 2 days (says it all).
It is totally unique, the wine choice was fantastic and served at a perfect temperature. The candlelit cave area was so Romantic.
We will definately be returning on our next trip to London.

My partner suggested that we partake of a wine bar on a trip up West. A wine bar? I thought that they had died a death at the tail end of the 80s along with padded shoulders and gated drums. Obviously not for at the more sophisticated end of the market there is a thriving number of such establishments to choose from. So I began looking and found Gordon's and remembered cutting through their outdoor seating area in December and wondering what was going on.
My loss that I didn't stop then. The cellar itself has a wonderful ambience usually found in genuine German bier kellers. The initial glasses of Bordeaux were delicious and our brief stop off turned into a longer session as we found a seat outside, took on a half bottle of Rioja and relaxed into the evening, watching the world go by in a time apart form time.
Nest time we will eat too. Recommended heartily and addictive too...

Wow, this place is like its out of a period piece tv series. Plenty of atmosphere( a bit too busy when the office workers are there) well worth a visit if you want an odd drinking hole to visit and its haunted also!

Gordon's Wine Bar is a must visit for both Londoners and visitors to the city. It's like a time capsule with a large wine list and their house 10 year old tawny is pretty good too. BOOKINGS HERE ARE A MUST unless you get there super early like 3pm during the week even in the winter months. It is always rammed and very few times have I managed to get a seat inside. Occasionally you can get a seat in a tented area outside under the eaters. The food here is pretty much snack food or an elaborate Ploughman's with like cheeses, cold meats, salads, croquettes etc. it is within striking distance of Embankment station, Charring Cross, The Strand, Trafalgar Sq etc. This is not a dressy place or a fancy place but it is a fanatic place to take people from out of town. You may get a phalanx of "suits" turn up on neighbouring PWC but these days they appear to spill into other places on the strip up to the Strand.
