If you want to experience a terrible London hostel, this is it.
Review of Via Limehouse
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 4, 2017
Booked a 6-person dorm, the room was small and had 3-bed bunks. In the top bunk it wobbled like crazy and the noise from te street was so loud my earplugs didn't help. Was like sleeping on the tower of Pisa in the middle of the freeway.

One of the windows was broken so couldn't close. There was some sort of heating pipe on the wall underneath the windows which ensured that the room was really hot most of the time.

Showers and toilets were broken & filthy. The upkeep is terrible.

Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.

Girls, especially solo or group of just girls, should avoid this place like the plague. It's filthy, (possibly unhealthily so... mold can kill), creepy and seemingly unsafe. Pair that with fantastically poor customer service and you are just a few steps and an innocent mistake away from a hostel experience that mimics the horror film. The beds are so wobbly it feels like an earthquake is going off when a person on the bunk moves. The showers were moldy, the toilets were horrible and to top it all off it felt unsafe. I asked for my next night refund. They refused to accept how horrible my experience was. Literally I was in and out of the hostel in under 12 hour from the moment I booked a two night stay.

Myself and ten others stayed for the bank holiday weekend for our friend's stag. As best man I appreciated the location (close to the DLR and overground, so central London was easily accessible), cost (great value for money for large groups, much better than Airbnb) and atmosphere (very easy going). The rooms were simple but just what we needed. A self-serve breakfast was £3.50, which is good value for the area, and there were no restrictions on when we could turn up. Very happy with everything.

I didn't have much expectations for this hostel before I turned up but it was awful. I was in a 12 mixed room. It was extremely crowded and the beds wobbled like crazy. Our on suit had a broken toilet seat and no toilet paper for the whole of my visit nd it was just unsanitary. Won't be coming back.

We got a room for 2 with private bathroom at level 1. Stayed3 nights with zero house keeping throughout 3 nights. We have to informed front desk that the toilet paper has run out when we went out in the morning and we expected housekeeping when they refill the toilet roll...... but not. When we returned in the evening, what we see is a roll of toilet paper placed on top of the toilet lid. They don't even bother to place it back in the toilet roll holder. There is no rack in the bathroom so you leave the toiletries on the floor. Basin is small and no extra space to put even your travel size toothpaste beside the basin . And because the toilet roll holder is locked, we cannot replace it but to place the roll on our bed or on the floor of bedroom. The trash bin remain full and floor remain dirty ( human hair and dirt from shoes).

Zero sound proof as you can hear clearly the conversation from the canteen , walk way etc. even at 10pm. Be prepared to plug your ear when the other were inconsiderate. But again they were not shouting but we still can hear clearly.

5-7 min walk from train station (limehouse stop). And there is a tesco express on the way from train station to hostel. Can pick up drinks snack or fruits. Bring your own bag.

Zero hanger in the bathroom, so don't expect to hang clothes or towel. In the bedroom there is no desk nor rack so you can just drop your watches, wallet etc on the floor. There is only one hanger on the wall in the bedroom so you and your partner will fight for the hanger.

Good: cheap, walking distance to train station, acceptable mattress (quite soft).
Bad: noisy, bad service (no housekeeping), inconvenient (no rack, no hanger).
cleanliness: acceptable upon check in but if you are staying for more than a night be prepared to empty your own trash or live with it.

This place is a scam according to the photos advertised. The common rooms are exactly like the photos posted online, however the photos of the bathrooms and bedrooms are not! Most dorm rooms have a 3bed bunk which they did not advertise. The ensuites have no circulation so it gets stuffy and humid. The rooms are very very small and you have hardly any space to place your bags anywhere except on your bed. The room has windows but very very small so the room does not get much air circulation. The hostel also hosted people of all ages, from school kids to older men up the age of 80 which made us feel uncomfortable. There is a tiny kitchen with no equipment except for 2 pans (you'd have to buy your own knives etc) shared between everyone which gets super messy and you're responsible for buying your own dishwashing liquid. The kitchen was messy because they do not monitor who uses it. We complained to reception and they said 'its impossible to monitor so we cannot be responsible to clean / make sure its a clean kitchen'.

Despite this, the staff were OK however it is clear they're there because they have to be - not because they want to be. The wifi was good but only in the common room - there is in-room wifi but very weak at times.

Room tip: I suggest you go for a private room - because the dorm rooms are stuffy, humid and has a bad smell.
