Spent an evening at the Harwood Arms and was not disappointed. Very good wine list and an interesting menu. I really enjoyed the venison.
Good atmosphere, relaxing.
Good service.

We called in here for a Sunday lunch, roast beef and all the trimmings, the beef was rare and bloody, full of grissle,we won't be back,a complete waste of good money as it was anything but cheap.

Birthday lunch with Ma and Sis. Relaxed pub-style atmosphere. Service spot on. Excellent country cooking. Simple but perfectly executed. Neck of pork particularly good. Deer mild and tasty. Lovely puds. Good range of ales too.

myself and my partner both had a very enjoyable meal at the hardwood arm on th 28th of august, we have been before and said we would return so we did and it was just as good and better, we had a bottle of terra vin ,the bread with salted butter which is stunning, it was nice touch to the evening when two of the waiters reconised us from our previous visit and asked if we were in the industry. this made us feel comfortable and for them to reconise after only being there once, we were suprised,i had the duck breast to start with a duck sausage which was a chicken mousse set with duck going through it but together with the breast and lots of shaved truffle and runner beans it was a real treat, and for my partner she had a wood pigeon salad , then for mains we went for the roast rump with bone marrow crushed potatoes and tenderstem brocolli and i had grouse with pressed potato and hispy cabbage with a shot of warm ale which made the whole meal a real delight, i was ummin and arring between the beef and the grouse because the waiter , named ed and had mentioned the bone marrow so he said he could change the garnish to suit so i said ok and the grouse came out with a lovely sized piece of marrow, at this point we was starting to filll abit full but still wanted desserts of course, so we were given our menus and i couldnt decide so i asked the waiter for his opinion and he mentioned the burnt mint cream on the specials but the frozen goats curd also sounded intresting, but i went for his recomendation, and then by suprise, he bought down two goats curds on the house because he wanted us to try them and it was a really good dish, frozen goats curd with vanilla and then strawberrys and blueberries with blueberry meringue and honeycomb, with a little mint, it all made sense, and then followed our desserts, my partner had selection of sorbets which were very very good, and i had the burnt mint cream which was a real treat, between a brulee and pannacotta with little dougnut balls and apple sorbet, myself and my partner would like to thank the harwood arms for a wonderful evening giving us a relaxed but attentive service.

Went for a birthday lunch. The food is great gastro pub but the menu is pretty narrow and a lot of the meat main courses look the same. Same veg and same plate arrangement just with a different slab of meat. The pub itself looks pretty shabby outside and whilst inside is pleasant there is no atmosphere at all. Really quiet and quite serious. The waitress was super snooty and looked like she didn't want to be there one bit. Waiting tables was clearly below her and she made you cringe when she came to the table because she made ordering so difficult. I presume this was the same person who called me three times in the three days before the booking to ensure I would be there. No real management or attention to detail when handling the customer. In summary, you can eat nice food here, but the restaurant has an identity crisis. It is trying to be a Michelin starred restaurant in a pub setting whereas to be successful it needs to be a pub first with great Michelin starred food (and better staff and atmosphere). Price was ok but overall I wouldn't rush back.
