I've visited this restaurant for years - and taken advantage of their take out service too (which is something in itself given I live practically on top of a reasonably good pizza place but walk a short distance to get food here instead).

It's a great place to take friends and it's handy to the Earl's Court Convention Centre so I'd imagine not bad for business lunches either. There is a good selection of food to choose from (although I always love the pizza) and I've always enjoyed good service from the staff.

The interior is nothing flashy (but not bad or anything) but you won't regret eating there and, in summer, a window seat will afford a sometimes quirky view of the world passing by. It is good value for money too - always a consideration in the neighbourhood.

Well worth a visit.

Dined with two others. Staff friendly and willing to help.
Short wine list but some good option though the Amarone is weak and over priced, the Barolo a little better.
Mozzarella and tomato was good to start.
Seafood spaghetti was very nice for main.
Tiramisu was too big but good.
Grappa was harsh and no one finished.
Decent coffee.

It won't blow your socks off but it's a good dependable Italian.

On a recent stay in South Kensington, my family enjoyed our meal at La Pappardella so much, they voted to come back again later in the week.

La Pappardella is just a great, authentic, neighborhood italian restaurant. This is not Michelin 3-star food. It's italian the way I make it in my own kitchen (and not to brag, but that's a compliment) -- Quality ingredients prepared simply and properly, for a reasonable price, with lovely inexpensive house wine that's actually drinkable, and friendly service that seems happy to have you there.

Pizzas are hand-tossed, thin and crackling with just the right amount of char on the bottom. To get just a taste of the pizza oven, order the Garlic and Tomato Pizza Bread. What arrives is what's known in Italy simply as pizza: a 12" pie with olive oil, garlic, and tomatoes. No mozzarella. Outstanding, and also an outstanding value at just over 5 pounds.

Many of the pastas are homemade, including the signature pappardelle, the spaghetti neri (squid ink pasta), and the lasagna. Most we tried on two visits were cooked al dente and properly balanced. Highlights included the signature spaghetti neri all'aragosta, which was firm and intense and brimming with lobster, the pappardelle della casa, a more delicate pasta that lands at the other end of the spectrum, and the gnocchi ala papalina.

While the homemade pastas were good, my favorite dish by far was the linguine gamberi e rucola, with king prawns on a base of rocket (arugula). Divine.

La Pappardella is by no means perfect. Some dishes were better than others, and one true dud was the penne tonno e olive, which didn't feel like it even came out of the same kitchen. While the other dishes were bursting with fresh flavors, this one was unbalanced and overwhelmed by canned tuna and black olives.

Deserts included intensely flavored gelatos and sorbets.

Service was friendly, even effusive. We felt welcome, not rushed. Again, the perfect level of service for a neighborhood restaurant. Highly recommended.
