Description: The world famous San Lorenzo restaurant on Chelseas Beauchamp Place opened in 1963, becoming increasingly popular over the years and now one of Londons number one dining destinations. The traditions that formed San Lorenzos ethic at opening remain to this day, leading the way in high quality, fresh and handmade food with chefs trained in house and everything from breads and sauces to ice cream made right here in the restaurant. A large, spacious and bright restaurant with classic-modern dcor including Warhol-esque prints and bistro seating, San Lorenzo is a calm, unhurried place for dinners with friends but with a splash of urban finesse giving it a business-friendly feel. Begin with a sip in the classy bar before following stairs down to one of the four dining rooms or up to the mezzanine, where youll enjoy authentic Italian food made with care and a passion for good produce as well as experience and enthusiasm. Lasting through endless fads and phases and remaining unremittingly ahead of the game throughout the decades, San Lorenzo is as much a part of Londons cultural landscape as Big Ben and the Buckingham Palace.

“Should close down”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Heard so much about this place but never visited. Well I regret that I've done so last Saturday for lunch. Asked for Olive Tapenade, the waiter brought olive oil, asked again, he brought this time Green Olives...didn't want to bother a 3rd...
Started with Mozarella and tomatoes, you'd think in a restaurant it surely should taste better or have a twist but it was as boring as watching paint dry.
Main was escalope Milanese, 5/10
And the grand finale was a tiramisu, negative 2/10
I think this place should go down and have a new owner with a new philosophy...Please help the cause and stop going there.

“Great Italian food in iconic location”
Reviewed October 23, 2013 via mobile

We'd always planned to try this place when in London and last weekend got the chance .. four of us, all tried different dishes , all were very good, all well cooked and tasty .. The price, for four with a £30 bottle of wine was £160 which is expensive, no doubt , for Sunday lunch, but eating in a place that's this famous is probably worth it for the experience .. We had a £100 lunch with £60 extra for the experience ..when you think of it like that, it's ok ! If I had a criticism , it's that when you enforce a mandatory 12.5% service charge per table , the extra £2.50 seating surcharge per guest is maybe a bit over the top .. £10 to sit down and 12.5% on top of your bill to be served the food, which was £19 pasta dishes in some cases, would I imagine put some people's hackles up .. As the service was great, the food was excellent , and I can luckily afford to pay the price , it was an enjoyable experience to take my family here .. Just remember to take a tissue for when the bill comes , to stop your eyes from watering !

“Very poor”
Reviewed October 22, 2013 via mobile

A restaurant that famously attracted rock star royalty and showbiz personalities in the early 1980s is now just expensive, with poor service, average food and lacking in atmosphere. Interior decor great but the place smells and the staff all seem very mal a droit. I would guess the owner is old or ill and the the love and passion has long gone. Hardly anyone there when we went. Turn it into a fun pizzeria and start again.

“Expensive and disappointing at the same time ...”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

I think I first went here almost 20 years ago and remembered how much I enjoyed the ambience, service and food ...
I really wanted to enjoy it again and I tried hard but I just felt so disappointed; I don't mind expensive if you receive quality back but this was lacking in a number of quarters.
At lunch on a Saturday the place was relatively quiet but service was not slow, just amateurish, as they forgot requests and I had to keep reminding them.
My wife loved her grilled sea bass but my osso bucco with saffron risotto was obviously microwaved and lacking any real flavour.
My daughter had a simple plate of penne pasta and with a couple of glasses of wine, dessert and coffee the bill was £135.
It is such a shame as it is an institution in many ways and you wonder why the owners don't realise how much better the whole experience could be!
