“very good food--great view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

A very pleasant setting, with a long glass wall facing the Thames and St. Paul's. I would assume it's usually quite crowded, but the tables are generously spaced, and the staff are very pleasant and efficient. Food was very good.

“Good art - but a bit tired”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

The art is good. But needs to be changed more often. The view from the cafe and the restaurant is very good but the food is not a good value.

“Overall I'd say definitely worth the visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

The view as noted repeatedly is probably one of the best from any restaurant in London. If you are gong to eat in the evening then do try and book in advance and request a view. The food is pretty good but not cutting edge; prices ok but portions a little on the small side. We had dealings with 3 waiters and every one was absolutely superb. With drinks inc coffee after the meal , and as other have mentioned, a rather excessive 12.5% service charge we paid approx £45 a head but 3 of our gp of 6 didnt drink much or have coffee.

“Great food, fantastic view of London”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

We visited the Tate Modern restaurant for dinner after viewing the gallery. We didn't have a booking, but we were eating early enough to be able to be squeezed in. Although you would need to book if you wanted a window table. I had lamb, although the portion size was quite small, it was great quality and we didn't mind spending the money. The restaurant had a fantastic view of London, I would definitely visit again!

“IN NEED OF BRINGING INTO THE REAL WORLD”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

Ate here last weekend while visiting the gallery....found the ambience OK but service charge at 12.5% in the UK excessive..... are the wages so poor we have to start heading towards the American level of charges (15%) in the capital whereas every where else in the country are more than happy with 10%.

We both ordered the fish and chips - we often use this as a measure of how good a restaurant actually is. Given the standard of food was good the main issue for this dish is definitely the price and quantity - what you get is two small portions of fish with chunky chips.....the chips are slightly bigger than you would get in a Fish and Chip shop but they are still small ..... at least when compared with the chunky chips we are served in the North West's top restaurants. The biggest problem was that with only 6 chips per plate this is quite simply not sufficient and an extra portion would be required. The price of the dish at £16 is exorbitant and unnecessary...this is simply excessive for what is provided. Where we normally eat you would get approximately double the quantity of chips and 50% more fish for £12 -£13 - I cannot comment on other dishes but we would recommend that the chef reconsiders the price and quantity of the ingredients that make up this dish.

I would also add that during the meal waiters check to see if
1. The food is satisfactory
2. Diners have everything they need prior to the food arriving and as the meal progresses in case diners run out of anything...we ran out of the accompanying sauce and were not provided with vinegar or slices of lemon until we asked and as the waitress explained the lemon would take a while as it had to come from the kitchen.... this should be dealt with more efficiently... are you supposed to eat fish and chips without vinegar or lemon dressings?

Please make an attempt to get it right or don't try to do something you have insufficient knowledge of .. foreign visitors will be put off eating one of the country's traditional staple diets if they try it here first!!

Please note that we do not eat at run of the mill restaurants and when comparing prices we are comparing venues which would sit easily with many of the best restaurants in London.
