Description: At Ma Goa Restaurant, my Mother and her team prepare their favourite dishes using family recipes passed down the generations. Our menu takes inspiration from all regions of India but we have a passion for Goa. Since its opening in 1993, we have won critical acclaim & we take pride in the fact that we are a genuine family-run independant restaurant. Our mission has always been to serve tasty, fresh, unpretentious home-style paired with incredible craft beers from our tap wall. Situated 2 minutes away from Putney British Rail & 5 minutes away from East Putney Tube it makes a perfect venue before a night on the town. We also offer a popular take-away & local delivery service via Deliveroo & UberEats & a party catering service. We look forward to welcoming you to Ma Goa soon.

Went here for a family dinner last night and it was wonderful. Delicious, fresh, fragrant, perfectly spiced food. Service was fast and friendly. We were in the main dining room at the back of the restaurant and it really filled up on a Saturday night so I think it's best to book ahead. The highlight was definitely the slow cooked lamb shank and the wine was very reasonably priced. Our only slight criticism was the Chai tea which wasn't very flavoursome, but I'm used to my sister in law's homemade version which nothing ever compares to! Overall, delicious food, good prices and service, would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

There are not many Goanese restaurants in London. Ma Goa has been highly recommended for many years and we at long last made it there
The menu is a mix of Goanese and some more usual Indian dishes.
We were a large group that allowed us to sample a variety of dishes. We started with papadoms and a plate of chutneys - a peanut based one was unusual but was virtually left untouched whereas all the others were quickly lapped up
Starters included stuffed papard - a fried dish with spicy potato which was well received, the piri piri salmon again well received, spicy bit not too hot, the Balchao shrimp which was tangy and hot and served with a crisp puri - very good. The papri chat a vegetarian mix of crisped rice, chickpea fritters and boiled chick peas topped with tamarind and yoghurt was good - and is more Mumbai street food than Goanese. The chicken tikka starter from the special menu was also enjoyed
We had a large number of mains, Naryal Ghost - a lamb dish in thick sauce which was good, the red chilli murgh was OK - not that interesting, the coconut and methi Gallina (chicken was good), the fish dish of the day was requested very mild - which it was and the spices still came through. The damp note was a tikka style chicken from the specials which was rubbery and tasteless.
The vegetables were good - the three beans were excellent and the daal was good the potato dishes were also enjoyed.
The different rices we ordered were excellent - the saffron and cashew one was particularly appreciated. The naans were good as well. A plate of fried chillies - we thought adventurous - turned out to be very mild
The dishes on the whole did not reach the heat associated with Goan cooking but all dishes were well spiced
We did not receive on or two items ordered and some were wrong - and that seemed to be the level of service though the evening a bit amateurish and at times absent
We finished off with deserts of semolina pudding (good and resolent of cardomon) home made praline ice cream (which was really an OK hazelnut), mango sorbet that was better received as was the ginger and honey ice cream
The teas included real mint and massala chai which was good but slightly under spiced
On the whole an enjoyable evening with some really good dishes and some not so good, there are a number of places in a similar price range that do the food better - Indian Zing for instance - but if this was local to me I would be happy

A very enjoyable meal, we ordered starters that were not on the menu, but confidently delivered by the kitchen nevertheless. For main most of us had the lamb shank, which is one of the house specialties. It was very good, but I wouldn't say it blew me away. We also had various vegetable side dishes, spinach, aubergine and occra (this actually came as a mistake) which were all tasty. Overall the food was good, and I couldn't fault any of it, but it just didn't make me get excited and desperate to re-visit as soon as possible, although I am sure I will go back.
The service was not great though, not for lack of trying. They were just clearly not professional, I am not sure whether the staff was family or relatives of the owners, but I got that kind of impression. Not a big issue though, but the service was a bit amateur (not in the least bit rude though or anything like that). It was slightly empty for a Saturday night which was a shame.
What I would say though is that it is superb value. How often does the final bill come and you are all pleasantly surpised. We ate quite a lot, had some drinks too, and all came to around £20 a head.
Overall a solid curry restaurant, and superb value.

Visited with a friend midweek and it was full by 8pm. Very tasty and filling food that took me back to travelling in India last year. Affordable too - starters and mains each, and sharing a sorbet came to £25 each. Would return.
