Description: An utterly authentic Indonesian restaurant in London's West End, Bali Bali goes from strength to strength, constantly gaining new fans among locals and visitors alike. Classically decorated in simple tones and unfussy furnishings, Bali Bali has a pleasingly relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and efficient service from staff who know the menu well. For the many years that Bali Bali has been a fixture on the London dining scene the kitchen has only improved, perfecting the traditional regional Indonesian dishes which delight customers with their balance of flavour and heat. The lunchtime and pre-theatre menus are an ideal introduction to Indonesian food or, if you can't decide, simply give chef free reign over your dining experience.

We noticed the restaurant a while ago on our way to a film in the Odeon which is on the other side of the street. It was a lucky find, as Indonesian cuisine is rather unknown in London, and this restaurant definitely serve good authentic food, and the staff is friendly and quick.
De Lapis regis (spekkoek) is as good as my (Indonesian) sister in law makes it.
For us a place to come back.

We stumbled accross this restaurant. Turned up at one of the busiest times. The only obvious spot available was a place opposite of the door. As we weren't too comfortable about the draft from the cold coming in the staff actually managed to find a different spot. The food was really yummy especially for the price we paid.

Most impressive was the service. It's been a long time since I have seen such a well cooridnated service team. And the result was that we utterly enjoyed our meal.

I took three coleagues for a meal at Bali Bali and it was an excellent experience. We were greeted by friendly and kind staff on a cold March day and having orderd rijstafel found our meal in front of us within 15 minutes. It was an excellent combination of dishes with good flavour and more than enough for the four of us. The wine, a montepulchiano d'abruzzo at £19 per bottle (a bargain) was smooth and was an excellent accompaniment for the food. It is a small restaurant and there was a much bigger party on the next table to us and yet we did not feel distracted by them. If you want a swanky contemporary atmosphere don't come here but if you want good honest fare, friendly service and value for money, in the heart of theatreland and 5 minutes from Covent Garden, this is a great place to eat. The bill came to just short of £30 per head for 7 shared dishes, a dessert each and a bottle of wine. I will be going back!

excellent Indonesian specialities! I can recommend you the sup udang (prawn soup), spicy but not too much and delicious, or the nasi goreng (fried rice), very good there. If you like spicy food, it's perfect. The price is interesting: 10£ each I went for lunch for a three-course meal.

We had a rijstafel and it was excellent. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. The restaurant is small but the tables are well laid out so you will probably not be distracted by other diner's conversations! By west end standards this is reasonably priced. The decor is perhaps the poorest feature - it looks like it has not been decorated since the 1970s. Still, it is small and friendly. A good choice for pre-theatre eating.
