Have been to this restaurant several times before but most recently the service has left a lot to be desired. The food continues to be great, but the service is going down hill at a rapid pace. Our main course came less than 20 seconds after the initial starters with the Samosa coming whilst the main courses were almost finished. We did discuss this with the owner but don't think he was really that bothered about the feedback. Looks like this is likely to be going the way of its Brick Lane cousins, what a shame!

Our party of 12 ate here. The waiter told us that all the food is prepared 24 hours before. There is nothing made fresh. Even the rice was prepared before and we were told it wasn't possible to have simple plain rice, but it had to be ruined with a disgusting amount of butter. All the food was so full of butter it was ruined. The staff were constantly rude in every interaction. To top it off, my plate was taken from under me whilst I was literally in the middle of taking food from it and eating. I strongly revommend you avoid this place. You would have a better experience eating from the rubbish bins outside.

We have been going to Tayyabs for more than 2 years now and it is always a pleasure come back. Great value for reasonable prices. Start with a Mixed Grill and take a curry as a main. Also the vegetarian options are great.

However, don't go there without a reservation. Waiting hours could be frustrating. So be patient!

You've probably heard about it by now.

Situated in the most unlikely backstreets of Whitechapel, this hidden but popular (I understate this...) spot has three levels, not that you'd know if you manage to withstand the wait. If you don't like tight squeezes or world-class service - it's not for you.

However, if the most important aspect is food and value and you don't mind being subtly nudged out the door - there's no where like it.

We had a mixed grill to start which was substantial (four of us) and then pick and mixed 3 small curries, 4 naan, 2 plates of pilau and popppdom - it came to £13 each. Pretty cheap but the price really doesn't do the food justice - not a huge selection but some of the best food from the sub-continent I've tried, albeit in just London.

It's BYOB but we made the mistake of rocking up with 24 bottles, 6 cans and a small bottle of whiskey - we outstayed our welcome. Obviously table turnover is how they can keep it so cheap (that combined with the fact that booze is obviously a big contributor to a bloated bill).

The atmosphere is great. Really vibrant and mixed - all chattering away on each floor.

Has to be experienced.

Visited Tayyabs recently on the recommendation of a friend (who came with us) and was somewhat underwhelmed. The food was good, but no better than one can get from similar places elsewhere in London (e.g. Tooting). Saying that, you probably won't find much better in what is more or less central London.

The situation on the ground floor where the queue snakes through diners' tables is a bad joke. We were seated upstairs and forced to listen to blasting music and the screams of inebriated early 20 somethings (so it is probably fine for that demographic). Service was sketchy at best: our breads were not delivered until way after the mains which mean that I ate most of my food cold. The chops were very good, as were the lassi's. Harder to judge the mains as they were cold but they seemed pretty decent. No attempt was made to rectify the problem with the bread's or offer a discount or something complimentary. In fact we had to scream at several waiters to even get our breads.

In summary, this restaurant is reasonably priced and has good food but, frankly, the queuing, noise and generally chaotic nature of the place means you are probably better off going elsewhere.
