Description: Welcome to Chettinad, the world of phenomenal South Indian cuisine. Chettinad is a small village in the Southern Tamil Nadu State of India. Chettinad is known for its culinary delicacies and now is one of the many reasons why people get to know Chettinad. We are a no fuss, no frill, stylish, laid back diner, who just speaks of truly and honest South Indian food in the heart of Central London. We only know how to cook-up good home comfort authentic food freshly made to order with understated approach to service. No meal is complete without traditional Dosa, lentil pancake eaten any time during the day. Well! Certainly it isn't just another Curry House!!! "Ideal place to try something new if you are a South Indian food virgin" Back home in Chettinad, your dishes are served on a huge fresh banana leaf, a disposable platter. Contact with your food is direct and tactile as you eat with your right hand, mixing wet into dry ingredients - a messy business for the uninitiated. In Chettinad Restaurant here, we want you to experience authentic original flavours, therefore you would find some of our dishes served with fresh banana leaf. Today we appreciate and respect that you have entrusted your palate to us, we will take great loving care and take your taste buds on a journey where each mouthful sings a new magical ''WOW'' note. Enjoy your meal at Chettinad- The Village Restaurant, where "QUALITY MEETS TRADIITON"

“Super Food, Super Atmosphere & Excellent Service!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

What a wonderful Southern Indian restaurant! A simple yet extremely comprehensive menu, just a great choice - not 70 or 80 choices as is the wont of some "Indian" Restaurants which is usually baffling - all dishes are clearly described and the taste actually matches the description! A good trick not usually encountered in many restaurants. There is a simple elegance about the place. The service is polite, professional and helpful - without being intrusive, Another very good trick! There is not the usually encountered pushiness where you are almost begged to have many side dishes, deserts and coffees! Great touch! To those of you reading this review - go and try this fine restaurant - you will certainly not be disappointed in my humble opinion! Oh! And the prices of all choices are reasonable - how about that! And FINALLY - clients are made feel genuinely welcome!!! Amen!

I was there with my friends Saturday evening. The restaurant was very busy almost full but they gave us a nice table whet a smiley face. I never tried South Indian food before this was my first time in South Indian restaurant. I was kinda don't know what to order. The manager zaman was very help full to explain few item in the menu and and we let him chose starter for us and that lovely the dry meat , fried prawn , dry chicken and the gobi some thing was really tasty then we chose our main course and the food was great nice flavour and some thing different to me. Service was very good attentive and friendly. I had a really great time in chettinad restaurant. I recommend this restaurant to every one and I will visit the restaurant again.

“Very enjoyable southern indian curry”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

This was a highlight both food and service wise of our four night stay in London. It seems to have had recent mixed reviews but we cannot fault it.

It was a Sunday evening and we arrived early but by the time we left 2 hours later it was full. Another good sign was the mixture of diners including quite a few Asian clients - it seemed from what we could see the Dosas were very popular.

In general Northern Indian cuisine is more popular in the UK, but Chettinad will certainly help popularise the cuisine from Tamil Nadu. There are more vegetarian options; the cuisine uses more rice and rice flour (Masala Dosas, see below) as well as coconut and the accompanying Sambar (tamarind and lentil based sauces)

We loved the savoury donuts (Vadai) and the cauliflower Manchurian (almost a cross between Chinese sweet and sour with Indian spices). Mains included the excellent Chettinadu Aadu (spicy lamb), Thengai Kolli Kullambu (milder chicken dish with coconut bit like Korma but not so sickly), Melagu Kolli (chicken cooked with lots of black pepper) and Masala Dosa (lentil and rice pancake filled with spicy potato mixture). The accompanying rice, especially coconut rice and breads (Paratha) were excellent.

We enjoyed a great Argentinian malbec wine for £20 a bottle. We had no space for a dessert, although the espresso coffee was good. The bill for 4 including service and two bottles of wine, a starter each, main course each with accompanying rice or bread was £30 a head, very reasonable.

Service was lovely throughout, even with a number of staff serving us. At the end of the meal we were shown the variety of spices which had been used in the preparation of our food. It was very interesting and we were introduced to a number of new spices we had never seen before.

“One of the best curry houses in London”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

The food is fantastic, especially the dosa. Try the Maragu Koli and the Thengai Aadu Kullambu curries. One of the best curries in London - certainly different to your average tandoori but no more expensive. The staff are always very attentive and friendly, especially the manager. Always a great visit!
