Description: Welcome to Chettinad, the world of phenomenal South Indian cuisine. Chettinad is a small village in the Southern Tamil Nadu State of India. Chettinad is known for its culinary delicacies and now is one of the many reasons why people get to know Chettinad. We are a no fuss, no frill, stylish, laid back diner, who just speaks of truly and honest South Indian food in the heart of Central London. We only know how to cook-up good home comfort authentic food freshly made to order with understated approach to service. No meal is complete without traditional Dosa, lentil pancake eaten any time during the day. Well! Certainly it isn't just another Curry House!!! "Ideal place to try something new if you are a South Indian food virgin" Back home in Chettinad, your dishes are served on a huge fresh banana leaf, a disposable platter. Contact with your food is direct and tactile as you eat with your right hand, mixing wet into dry ingredients - a messy business for the uninitiated. In Chettinad Restaurant here, we want you to experience authentic original flavours, therefore you would find some of our dishes served with fresh banana leaf. Today we appreciate and respect that you have entrusted your palate to us, we will take great loving care and take your taste buds on a journey where each mouthful sings a new magical ''WOW'' note. Enjoy your meal at Chettinad- The Village Restaurant, where "QUALITY MEETS TRADIITON"

South-Indian food on it's best. Fresh and delicate food served in exciting dishes. The waiters were very friendly and service minded. We were happy that the waiter insisted us to order chutneys together with the starters. Excellent choice.

When I called to organise a surprise birthday for more than 20 people, Sugan could not have been more helpful. They were flexible on the menu, very attentive to some very challenging dietary requirements, and gave us a sense that the organisation of this event was important to them and under control. The food and service were excellent and the team went out of their way to make our evening special. Both the range of starters and main dishes were very good - the food was plentiful and delicious. And the priice for London was very reasonble.

Thank you guys for a great night.

After hunting on TA for a good Indian, we booked Chettinad as it was highly rated. Situated just off Tottenham court road up from Oxford street and soho, it was right on the edge of the action.

It was very busy when we arrived, yet the welcome and service was excellent. The host took us through some dishes and specifically asked if we like spicy food - which we thought was good. As it happens, my partner and I both enjoy and cook Indian and Pakistani food so spice away!!

First was the mixed starter, which came with a very spicy fish. We did wonder if we had put our respective feet in mouths, but not so. The starter was very tasty and to follow we ordered a lamb madras and lamb Chettinad. Both were very good; subtle, yet with a kick. The Chettinad dish was very unusual, which we later discovered had a specific kind of spice - the manager took the time to bring out and explain some of the spices they used. Some we knew/used (cumin, turmeric, star ainse) and then a few we didn't - and still can't remember the name. Didn't matter though as they put some in a napkin for us to take home. Thanks!!

The meal was very reasonable for Central London; starters, mains, rice, bread, lager and a bottle of wine fo £75 with service. I visit London on business quite frequently, so will be back here soon. Thanks again TA!!

Four of us went to this restaurant after seeing a West end show on the back of its reputation on tripadvisor. The staff were very welcoming, I do think the décor lets the restaurant down, it really didn`t have that warm cosy restaurant atmosphere, this by no means spoilt our evening though. Two of our party are not that great with `spicy` foods, however the waiter was really very helpful asking each of us what our favourite meat was and how spicy we liked our food, he was then able to recommend meals individually for each person. This also saved us from going over and over the menu not able to decide for ourselves!
The food served was first class and the waiter ordered just the right amount of rice and sides so as not to waste. If I had to criticize at all, I have to say I am always happy to tip after having a nice meal with good service, however one of my pet hates is the dreaded `service charge being included on the bill without advising of such!
I would happily recommend this restaurant

Would seriously recommend this as an excellent India in center of town. Food was great, service was exceptional and all in all a good place for a night out. The only minor downside was the slightly bland decor and surroundings but the cuisine certainly made up for that!
Having gone there on the recommendation of my Indian friends, I would definitely endorse it as a place to try
