Please don't be trapped into thinking that this "hotel" should be frequented because of its convenient location and reasonable price. The smell of rotten milk in the fridge, stained carpet, rat droppings on the bed, missing shower curtains, missing toilet paper that the front desk could not replenish, etc. etc. will change your mind. Needless to say, you will be wise to find another location.

On a positive note, the young gentleman at the front desk did all that he could to remedy the situation (like taking the fridge out of my room and bringing me a can of air freshener.) There were other friendly staff members as well, but even they could not make up for this sorry excuse for an accommodation. It wasn't their fault. The dorms have simply not been cleaned in months and it shows.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. That's my advice

My first night in London was mistakenly spent in an ordinary hostel where I paid 80pound a night! Then I searched on the net and I found QMUL dorm. I booked a room for 24pound per a day for the other week after looking at the comments. I spent a very nice night there and I really liked it!! It was cheap, clean and comfortable. Besides, it is close to Mile End underground stop, and you can arrive very easily. The staff was very friendly and the room was very silent to sleep well. Now, I recommend to all of my friends that safe, comfortable and cheap place. You would need safety in London!

I needed somewhere chep in London at last minute for a meeting in Docklands. Normally I would stay in a Travelodge, but at such short notice these can be quite expensive. Having read various reviews, this place sounded OK so I though I'd give it a try. What a mistake !!! The accomodation has a horrible sickening stench throughout all corridors and rooms. Five large rbags full of rubbish were left rotting outside my door for the whole durantion of my stay (3 days). It's amazing they don't have rats. The carpet in my room was disgusting... covered in dirt and stains that looked like blood, vomit... possibly worse. The bathroom was covered in black mould everywhere. Worst of all, there was no hot water whatsoever in the kitchen, bathroom or the bedroom sink... it was stone cold. To be fair, after I complained at reception, someone did come and sort out the problem, but this was only after I'd had to ensure a freezine cold bath/shower on my first morning. The area is a bit dodgy as well... this is one of the dingier areas of London - although the campus seems fairly safe as there are gates and a security guard. But when you venture off the actual campus, you're in a pretty bad area. I'm a fairly tough male well over six feet tall, but even I wouldn't have ventured off the campus late at night. Single females please be careful !!! All in all, I think many of the positive reviews are from people who are used to poor conditions... but why on earth stay here when for a similar price you can get a much better quality and better located b and b or motel?

I went with efcollegebreak and they booked it for us. I stayed in a one bedroom flat, which happened to be my favorite all through Europe. They are dorms and you can only stay in the summer while school is out. The people that worked there were friendly enough and the breakfast in the morning was good. The area of town was not my favorite. There are a couple of internet cafes around the place that are really cheap and it is in between two of the tube stations which you have to take to get downtown. The tube is easy to use. I went on it by myself more than a few times and I was not scared or anything. It is not close to downtown and I would not venture too far around there at night but I did love the pub right next door, the locals were so friendly! Feel free to message me if youd like!

I booked QMUL thru Hostelworld.com You can also book directly from them at http://www.ccrs.qmul.ac.uk/holidays/rates/index.html
I stayed a total of 12 days in both Maynard and Beaumont Hall. Maynard is not an en suite, you share facilities with five other rooms. Beaumont is en suite. Maynard has a full bathroom and one small toilet/sink in each "wing" of the dorms. There is also a kitchen area in each wing on each floor. There is a common area on the ground floor with a television set. Maynard has a lift but Beaumont does not. There is NO air conditioning in either building. But so far, July has not been hot enough to warrant one. I leave the window open and get a nice breeze.

The room is spacious, the bed is comfortable, and the water in the shower is hot! QMUL is also obsessed with cleaning! The staff comes thru every day to empty trash cans and do cleanings. They are constantly changing the linens and towels. It is an uber clean place to stay! Most mornings I am woken up by the cleaning staff. Beaumont is an en suite (shower and toilet in room) and has a small fridge.

There is a laundry on site. It's L2 to wash and 50p to dry. There is an internet cafe about 5 businesses down and a great chicken and chip place (Dixie Chicken) 4 doors down. There is also a small grocery store on the corner. Mile End tube stop (District, Hammersmith, Central line) is one block up and across the street. The 25 and 205 buses run twenty four hours a day.

The University is located in Zone 2. It is the East End of London. It takes about 25 minutes to get to Victoria and about the same time to get to Leicester Square by tube. It's not central, but it's a nice neighbourhood. Westend Village, the dorms of QMUL, is on a canal. Everyday (when weather permits) there are people sitting by the canal having lunch, reading, pic nicking, or sunning themselves. I've seen bikers and joggers. There is a park on the corner as well.

Queen Mary University of London at Mile End is open during the summer University break (June to September). Accomodation requirements meet everyone from B & B, single rooms, twin and double rooms with or without shared bath. You can also have exclusive use of a whole flat (great for families). Our flat consisted of 4 bedrooms each with individual ensuite bathroom and individual fridges. We were only using 2 bedrooms. The kitchen and dining area in the flat were excellent addition, allowing us to cook some meals and have our breakfast supplies. We expected cleaning to occur once only during the week but it was done daily while we were out. Reception is 24hours and each flat has excellent security (key and electronic card access). Security guards also circulate round the campus. There are too many transport options to mention however central London is only 20 minutes by tube. If you are coming from Heathrow take the Piccadilly Line to Barons Court then change (adjacent platform) to District Line for Barking or Upminster. By changing trains at Barons Court you avoid stairs and having to change in busy central London. Turn left when exiting Mile End tube station and follow the blue signs, only 5 minute walk to the gates to Westfield Way. Check in is in the big green building, you get given excellent directions with your booking confirmation. I had previously booked through hostelworld.com and the directions were also excellent. This time I booked direct with QMU. On site is a village shop with basics. There is a mini supermarket near by called Budgens open to 11pm each day. There is a late night convenience store near Budgens also. A massive Sainsburys is a few bus stops away at Whitechapel open to 11pm. A smaller Co-op at Stepney Green also open to 11pm. An outdoors shop Halfords is also on Mile End Road selling camp equipment etc. Laundry on site with good machines and dryers. Luggage can be left is leaving later in the day. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Sometimes there are international school groups but most of the time it is very quiet by midnight.
