Description: Set in a striking Georgian townhouse in the heart of Londons Fitzrovia, Bam-Bou Vietnamese restaurant is always buzzing with a mix of local media types and West End foodies. Furnished throughout in a French-Vietnamese colonial style, Bam-Bou is divided into two handsome dining rooms, four private rooms and a top-floor bar serving exquisite cocktails and Eastern teas and infusions. The menu showcases the best of southeast Asian cuisine, with authentic recipes and ingredients sourced from Thailand, China and Vietnam. You can feast on familiar favourites like green chicken curry, but we recommend the Hanoi-style short ribs and the seared scallops with sweet pork and perilla cress. With its flawless service and unique decor, Bam-Bou is an elegant restaurant that is perfect for low-key lunches and cosy dinner dates. As its minutes from Soho, Bloomsbury and Oxford Street, Bam-Bous location couldnt be bettered.

“Exquisite food but check your bill”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

We booked a table here for a mini-reunion (6 of us). Our booking was for 7:30 and they told us we would have to vacate the table by 9:30, which rang a few alarm bells. However, this was unfounded as the restaurant wasn't very busy at the time and they let us keep the table. I still found that necessary and somewhat arrogant of the restaurant, though.

The food is Asian-Fusion and was truly exceptional, the main selling-point of the restaurant, as it should be. We tried most things on the menu (designed for sharing) and everything was delicious. The chefs have clearly put a lot of thought and creativity into striking the balance of portion and art. The wine and cocktail selection was also very good. The toilets were acceptable, but could do with some refurbishment.

In terms of service, the staff was attentive and remembered who ordered what 95% of the time. One of the waiters was a little standoffish but not overly so. The only sour point of the evening was when a few items from the adjacent table had been added to our bill, which amounted to about £30 extra. We went through it carefully and they took the items off without fuss.

Overall, this place is fantastic. It's a bit over-priced but most places are in central London; but they do have cheaper early-bird (before ~ 5 p.m.) and late menus (after 10 p.m.). They can manage with large groups, but it's probably better to avoid going in parties larger than four.

“Wonderful Flavours”
Reviewed January 31, 2013 via mobile

Having just returned from a five week holiday in the UK, my husband and I had the opportunity of eating at a number of very good restaurants country wide. Bam-Bou's pre-theatre special offer did not disappoint. We experienced great tasting dishes in a wonderful setting and received very good service. My only criticism would be that the tables were a tad too close and that the maitre d' seemed to seat the diners on one side of the restaurant, which seemed a little odd. Putting that aside, I would highly recommend this restaurant to fellow travellers.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We visited Bam-Bou for a birthday celebration. We have visited on a previous occasion about a year ago and was very impressed which is why we both decided to return. However, this time round was a very different experience. We were early for our table reservation and went and had drinks in the Red Bar. It was freezing cold and actually took the enjoyment away as we could not wait to get to our table. The service was very slow and they seemed to concentrate on the larger tables of four or more for customer service. Our vegetable dish was cold and we had to fill up our own wine glasses (when you are dining in a Michelin star restaurant this is something you do not expect to have to do)! There was certainly no customer service. In hindsight I would certainly recommend trying another restaurant especially as they had a service charge on top of the bill! Experience and value for money I would try somewhere else and will not be returning.

Great place for after work drinks and supper with friends - a favourite haunt. The food and service are great but its the atmosphere that really makes it.

“Wonderful, wonderful”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

I had been a few years ago to Bam-bou and when I found myself and some friends in the Tottenham Court Road area we headed there. We hadn't booked and the restaurant was full. The girl on the door was very pleasant and promised us a table in 10mins. We went to the bar on the top floor and were called after a short time. Both of my friends had never been to Bam-bou and they were effusive about the place. Small plates of squid, crackers, edamame, and ribs were perfect - exactly the right balance of flavours in each dish. Mains of curry, chilli prawns and beef cheek were to die for. Two bottles of wine and coffee came to £50 each. Great night out, under no table pressure to move on and it looks like there are good offers on pre and post theatre menus.
