One of the best Turkish restaurant on upper street. Great stuff. Delicious food. Try Gozleme to start and Beyti for main.

“Wonderful hospitality, great value, lovely food! Thank you all - see you soon :-)”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

This lovely Kurdish/ Turkish restaurant is true to it's name. A gem which capably stands up to fierce and plentiful local competition. We arrived just before 7pm on a Saturday night, initially drawn in from the cold by the lady making bread in the window. A very warm welcome from all the staff as we walked through, settled us into a cosy table near the back by the stairs. This also meant that each dish that came up from the kitchen was paraded right past us, making our selection process even more difficult than just choosing from the mouth-watering menu! We ordered our mains and drinks then were presented with a delightful Qatme (Kurdish stuffed bread starter) comprised of 4 pieces. Hesitating a moment, we did wonder whether the sweet old lady had served the wrong table. But wolfed them down anyway. Although the place was filling up, our tasty mains soon followed: Adana (grilled minced lamb with rice and salad) & Tavuk Shish (grilled chicken with rice and salad) were both fresh tasting and well seasoned. Feeling fairly satisfied and having swapped a bit of chicken and lamb between plates, we knew both dishes were equally good, our friendly waitress then brought out a little Seker Pare (a semolina cake drenched in sugar syrup, this served with vanilla ice cream) as a complimentary sweet just to round things off. It was absolutely delicious and totally unexpected. So an impromptu 3 course meal plus a beer each came in at £26. Astounding value and we were looked after by such lovely people that we will be back soon. Very impressed and 10/10 to you all. Thanks so much for such a great dining experience. Believe me - I've had some shockers in my time and it's so nice to see good people get everything right for their guests. See you again soon.

“Great food, impeccable service!!”
Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

We came for lunch last Friday for a friends birthday - you could see someone cooking in the window it had a real homely feel to it. Walked in and were greeted by really friendly staff, it was quite full already and had a nice atmosphere. We were waited on and attended to impeccably, always with smiles and the food was DELICIOUS. And I mean delicious. We ordered chef special of all random mezze platters and everything was amazing - they do a great lunch time deal starter and main for £7.95 as well which you get more than you need for your fill. The waiter then brought us all out dessert - we said we hadn't ordered it but he offered it complimentary as he had overheard it was our friends birthday and put a candle in hers - so sweet! And the rest of us got free dessert too! (There were 10 of us) really nice gesture and it really made the day - thank you Gem, we will definitely be returning! Xx

“Recommended! Stands out amongst the many Turkish restaurants in Islington”
Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

ISLINGTON is awash with Turkish restaurants and most if them are very good. This one stands out from the rest. The quality of service is very good. The food is fresh and delicious. If you're a salad lover, the grilled chicken breast and salad dish is well worth it. The Iskender is very tasty. Best of all is the little old lady at a workstation in the window making little stuffed Turkish breads. They are delicious starters. We had a spinach and onion stuffed one and a cheese stuffed one. Both lovely.
