A friend who lives in London thought this would be a great start to my stay in London having come from another foodie town-San Francisco. And she was right. We shared some great dishes-green beans, a fig salad, duck, tofu, scallops and a mixed berry financier. It was all very good though it is quite pricey.

Was quite excited to be trying out Ottolenghi for the first time having heard so much about it. Checked the website; food looked delicious and reasonably priced. Got to restaurant and discovered tapas style of eating with small portions on small plates. Food was wonderful with many interesting flavours and fresh ingredients and the hot food freshly cooked to order. We enjoyed the eating experience. What we didn't enjoy was the cost for what were very small dishes. House wine £20-ish, food: £9-10 pounds for the cold dish selection and £11+ for the hot food, seemed to be taking the mickey, especially as we were advised to allow three dishes each. We needed the three otherwise we would have left hungry. Not a particularly comfortable environment either as our party of 9 were on an unsociably long, narrow table which was also a bit of a minefield for the long legged amongst us who discovered all the sharp corners.

All in all, I felt we were being charged "fashion" rates and, whilst I might be tempted to try some of the recipes at home, I wouldn't go back to the restaurant. We have too many other choices of equally tasty, good quality food at much more reasonable prices. Oh, and the bill for 9 of us for not a lot of food? £458 although that did include 12.5% service.

What a surprise - again. We've read the books, cooked the recipes and watched the programmes. But why do the restaurants not compare? Expensive yes, but we can live with that if we feel fed with flavoursome food that constitutes a meal. Saucer sized dishes that seem absent of the herbs, spices and flavour everyone expects. Where is the substance and sustenance? Where are all the delicious breads, couscous and flavour that warrant the price and hype? Sadly, this is the last time we can give Ottolenghi the benefit of the doubt. Any local restaurant will give more in taste, personality, warmth and a sense of being fed - at half the price. We are so disappointed.

I've eaten here lots, and again it was perfect. This chef has such unusual ideas about combining foods together, lamb with peanut butter for one, it was excellent. We ordered three items each off the main menu and dessert from the menu and counter, and then ordered 5 more desserts which they boxed up for us to bring home. That's how much we like it ! Two toilets, which men and women share, all of us had to queue for the loo.

I travelled from southwest France in anticipation of dining at this establishment which is getting great press in the US (The New Yorker and NPR). One word for this Israeli/Palestinian owned and run restaurant: delicious!. Especially the salads and desserts which were very difficult to choose between. Finally settled on a lemon tart which did not disappoint. Yum.
