“Great Food - Poor Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

This was my first time at Pescatori since its renovation. The choice and quality of fish was excellent and the food was very good. It was a busy Thursday evening and the ambience was good but the whole expereince was spoilt by the poor service. The staff were friendly and helpful when you could get their attention but there just weren't enough of them. We waited 25 minutes for them to take our order. They forgot to bring the wine we ordered and it was very difficult to get the staff's attention. Getting the bill was a challenge. The food was very good and when they address the service problem it will be a great place to eat.

“Quickest £50 bill I've ever racked up”

Charming interiors and great food. The small portions were quite a surprise. With one shared side and two drinks, the bill was quite astonishing. Average service, so the assumed gratuity was a bit much.

“Excellent lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We had the seafood platter, which was very fresh and fabulous, followed by Bass which was equally good.
I live about 10 minutes from the fishing port of Newlyn as well as having friends who line catch bass and lobster which I often eat the day they are caught, so I am used to spanking fresh fish and I can tell the difference. This was as good

“A return to Charlotte Street”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

Not having visited this restaurant for over 40 years so I was astonished when my son suggested meeting there for supper. It has been furnished and is now very smart with an extensive new menu. There was a delicious prosciutto with figs followed by wonderful monkfish cheeks. ChiantI flowed.

“Food was reasonable, service lacking”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

As four retirees we were meeting to chew the fat and catch up on events. We were seated and within a couple of minutes the waiter wanted to take our order. We sent him away as we were in no hurry but he soon returned and reminded us that the kitchen was very busy and we would have to wait unless we got our order in promptly. To keep the peace we order our starters and main courses; all were from the fish and seafood choices on the menu. The choice of meat dishes was limited and included veal and lamb shank. Side dishes were charged as extras at around £4 for chips or vegetables. The waiter tried to promote some of the more expensive white wines on the list at highly inflated prices. We went for a couple of bottles of Falangina at just under £24 a bottle; it was perfectly drinkable. The table was laid with water glasses but no effort was made to enquire if we wanted water on the table nor was any bread offered. The starters arrived and my choice of scallops was four small offerings on a large plate; the scallops were OK but gone in a flash. The main courses arrived without the chips we had order. Waiter implied that we had not ordered them with the mains which was not correct, they finally appeared when we were finishing our dishes ! Pudding and coffee rounded off the meal and we paid £62 a head including the already added service charge. This restaurant produced reasonable food but the feeling was that of being on a production line with the objective of processing you through as soon as possible. The location of Pescatori is such that they have a major patronage from the suits working in the nearby offices, the restaurant was busy during the lunch hour but emptied completly before we departed.Overall reasonable food, expensive wine and indiferent service
