“Hidden gem”

I live in the neighbourhood and yet had never ventured into this place. W8 right next door was somehow more familiar but I now know what I have been missing out on!

Excellent food, nice wine menu with reasonable prices to boot. The foie gras is divine. Very personal and warm service. Another benefit (one hard to find hear days) is the decibel levels. You can enjoy a lovely evening without having to shout to be heard. Families are also made to feel welcome. In short: I will be a regular.

“Wedding lunch at Whits - most amazing lunch”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We had 12 guests for a formal lunch at Whits after our registry wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall, the restaurant is so conveniently located near High Street Kensington, a short cab drive away. They are not open for lunch usually however with a minimum spend it was a great deal to have all that privacy for an event.

Ava, who heads the restaurant, helped us coordinate everything from wine lists to the menu. We had multiple queries and she was very prompt in responding.

We visited the restaurant to try out the food and were blown away both by the service and the fresh tasting food.

The day itself was beautiful. Each and every guest commented on how lovely the food was. The table was beautifully set and the service very caring and thoughtful and non intrusive.

You must, must visit this restaurant. They do what they do so very well.

“Delightful, cosy French fare”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

A charming family-owned restaurant down a back street in Kensington - although it's so unpretentious you can forget which part of London you're in.

This is the second time we've been (the last time a couple of years ago) and are happy to report that standards haven't slipped at all :)

The lady who runs the place does the front-of-house service, very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The waiting staff are able to answer questions about the menu too and come across as genuine and friendly.

The food is fantastic, with a seasonal changing menu that still leaves room for some old favourites. I had the oriental salmon for a starter and (a very rich!) grouse for the main, while my partner had lobster ravioli (as indulgent as it sounds) followed by a rib-eye steak. Portions are very sizeable, putting quantity and quality ahead of pretentious 'designed' plates of food.

Dessert for me was the highlight, as it was last time. The majority of the desserts seem to be presented as a trio that really shows off the chef skills. The soufflés in particular seem to be a speciality there.

Overall a highly recommended restaurant if you fancy some excellent, unpretentious French dining.

“Great seafood”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

I ate at Whits a couple of weeks ago. The sea bass was excellent as was the ravioli starter. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very polite and unobtrusive, all-round very positive experience. Will definitely eat here again.

“Excellent, sophisticated food without foodie cuteness”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

My husband and I had an extraordinary dinner last week at Whits. His grouse was succulent and tender, with an excellent bread sauce, toasted crumbs and a rich, well-flavored meat sauce. The leg meat of the grouse, which we were told can be tough, was made into a sausage served with the above. I had the John Dory filet with sauerkraut and lobster sausage. The homemade kraut was very mild, served with complimentary vegetables, and a very good sauce.

This chef keeps the integrity of the food he prepares, using flavors in the vegetables and meat or fish that complement each other. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Vickie T., Bethlehem, PA USA
