“A star in the East (or Kensington)!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

We ate lunch here on the 15th December, after a very poor experience at Amaya, the night before. The food was great, we were made to feel special by everybody, and I can't help smiling when I recollect our time there. We met with close family (including 2 young children) because we were only in the capital for 24 hours, so it was really important to us that everything went smoothly. They weren't shocked by the large amount of luggage we left at reception and the various arrival times of our party, and the lady at the bar made a perfect 'kir peche', despite not knowing what it was, but was happy to have a go at creating one based on my instructions.

The senior waiter coped brilliantly with the combination of fixed menus and a la carte orders. Adapting the food for the children wasn't a problem and he went out of his way to find an unoaked chardonnay that fit the bill. Unlike our experience, he was spontaneously forthcoming on the secrets of the tandoor - we have owned one for over 20 years, and have struggled to get accurate information in the past - of course, by now we know of which we speak!

The set menu was very reasonably priced, but more importantly, great to look at and great to eat. My favourite was the chicken tikka done in 3 different marinades from the a la carte. It tasted heavenly and was very similar to some of my home made chicken tikka - no colouring and you can identify the different fresh ingredients of the marinade.

Zaika, I don't think I've ever given full marks before, so you must be doing something, or everything right!

“YUM!!! Indian cuisine at its very best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Totally delicious, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Possibly the best Indian cuisine I've ever had. Compliments to the chef! Exceptional service too, friendly, efficient and helpful. They allowed for A la carte on New Years Eve which was very reasonable as I did not have to pay for the set menu for two.
Clean, comfortable seating, perfect lighting.
Check it out!

“Wonderful Flavors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

We enjoyed a lovely final dinner at Zaika just before the new year. All of the flavors were so well layered. The presentation was also good. We enjoyed an excellent meal.

“Creative, delicious, expensive food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

Zaika is the place I've been returning to every time I visit London, since it opened over ten years ago. It specializes in beautifully prepared, creative takes on Indian food in a lovely atmosphere. Two waiters dominate--one wonderful and friendly; the other less so (perhaps because I've been eating alone?), but both are efficient in their service. Be prepared to pay for Zaika's creativity--it is expensive.

“Beautiful Tasting Menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

We enjoyed five star treatment at Zaika's- the restaurant serves delicious Indian dishes that are as beautiful as the restaurant's architecture and decor. We had an early dinner with our two children and the staff went out of their way to ensure that our daughters were having as great a dining experience as us. We ordered the wine paired tasting menu that included a silky cumin infused butternut squash soup, a succulent chicken tikka medley with basil and mint, and a lamb rump with spiced ratatouille and reduced shank sauce. The fruit granite were a hit with our girls as was the coconut shrimp. It was very pricey- we paid about $400 (230 British Pounds Sterling) for the dinner. The sommelier is very helpful in describing the wines that were paired with each meal. I am certain that there are other more competitively priced alternatives that offer the service and the quality of food that are commensurate with the price that we paid- we wanted Indian and this was the suggestion offered by our hotel that sat across the street from the restaurant.
