Description: Zafferano has become one of the most consistently lauded Italian restaurants in London since bursting onto the Belgravia dining scene in 1995. Serving a menu of authentic, wholesome Italian recipes, there is also an elegant bar serving flavoursome cocktails and a separate menu of regional Italian favourites. The restaurant boasts classic, chic decor, and a consistently warm Mediterranean ambience which draws diners back time and time again.

I have visited this restaurant on average once a year for the past six years or so and as London is a bit desolate between Christmas and New Year I thought this would be a good old stand by to meet with friends as the atmosphere would hopefully be as buzzy as we could expect.
We were not disappointed. The place was packed the atmosphere just right and we had a convivial
evening with excellent friendly service and good food. The menu is quite limited but what they do is done very well. My husband had the endive salad with pears and gorgonzola dressing which he said was a fresh crispy relief after stodgy Xmas food and then duck with mustard fruits which he pronounced excellent.
This is good Italian food but not the River Cafe that said the owners should be congratulated
for maintaining a standard you can return to on a regular basis and fell confident of having an exemplary evening out in London.

I had been looking forward to dining here, as I had heard good things about it; unfortunately it did not live up to it's reputation. The starter was good, but then it was bresaola, and the credit for that does not lie with the chef. My main was a chicken and mushroom dish, which was well done, attractive, but not remarkablel, and the amount of chicken was rather mean. My husband's fish stew was disappointing: thin and not very tasty. The quantity was also small. Deserts were a real let down - just sliced fruit, minus the cheese ice-cream advertised, and poached pear and ice cream. The service is somewhat off-hand, and it proved next to impossible to attract the waiter's attention for some more water at the end of the meal. They are also rather sniffy about providing tap water, a restaurant sin I thought we had got over.

Had dinner with friends here on a Saturday ; very nice welcome and nice table in top location in London. Atmosphere was very relaxed but was surprised it was not fully booked ; good news there were none of these terrible X-mas parties by companies.

Food was excellent ; one starter was missing but sorted quick and for the rest service was great !
We all had 4 course menu with steak as main dish , nice with super sauce but just some hard potatoes as side dish was little disappointing. Sommelier was good and fair and recommended fantastic red wine from Veneto.

I was too drunk to check the bill properly but was surprised they added GBP 10 per person for bread , meat and cheese while we thought this was complimentary...Italian style but then you should ask your guests right ? Also since starter was forgotten they told my wife they would not charge it but of course this was not done ; they also charged GBP 1 for calling a taxi ..... !

If you spend - like we did - GBP 650 you can be a little nicer with billing , for me a reason not to go back there again. You can fool me but only once !
