Quintesentially english, albeit with afew foreign staff, but the backbone, english, a world class, supper, had with my friends, a little old fashioned, but isn't taht the beauty of the spot, 1742 founded, surely thats before america..even,

Lovely ambience friday night, filled to the brim, foie gras for satrter, and lobster for main, to die for, yes i can see the fashionistas complaining in earlier reviews, but this is england,Andrew Turner top drawer chef, a credit, yes old school, but hey thats the beauty of the place...

I'd heard a lot about this place, so when one of my agencies asked to take me out, I chose here. It's in the heart of old fashioned London (St James), surrounded by tailors and gentlemen's clubs. It is all wood-panelled and very formal and stuffy, which can be fun, but it was overdone here. They forced my guest from Vietnam to wear a jacket as all gentlemen have to wear a jacket to dine. Food was pretty average, but bloody expensive, however my dessert, the summer pudding was excellent. We asked for oysters but they claimed to sell them from September onwards... a ridiculous guide from the days before refrigeration.

They try and play up the 'Ohhh, Look how establishment English we are", but all the waiters are foreign from Poland and Eastern Europe and sometimes they did not understand our requests.

Hugely disappointing. Go to Rules instead.

Food was subpar and service was abysmal. According to Mr. Grant we simply didn't deserve better. There are many wonderful restaurants in London I would direct you elsewhere.

You need to wear a jacket and tie (and, ok, they will lend you one), but it's really not worth it unless you like school dinners.
