“Excellent food but don't get the 'matching wines'”
Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

We had high expectations and have been to other restaurants of a similar standard.....so not the easiest to impress.

The staff were welcoming to a point, however our waiter was a touch too perfunctory. We prefer a slightly more chilled and friendly approach to the dining experience

We ordered the degustation menu. The food was complex, beautifully presented and the flavours subtle.

However, the matching wines were a significant disappointment. They were nowhere near the standard of the food. This does create some difficulty for a couple as it is not possible to pick one bottle of wine to match so many dishes.....unless you are happy with multiple bottles. Therefore, my suggestion is to go the a la carte route of only 4 dishes and skew it accordingly to an appropriate wine of quality.

“Very good second time around”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

I last visited here 18 months ago, on my own, and was blown away. So I did a return visit with my family, and was still very impressed, but not quite blown away this time. Possibly my menu choices the first time were better. The tastes, presentation and service were excellent both times. Our only minor concern was that as they don't appear to have any large tables, we had booked a table of 4 and a table of 3, and the two tables were at opposite ends of the restaurant, so it was not possible for us all to chat. I probably should have specified I wanted the two tables together when I booked...

“Good food served by charming welcoming staff”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

2 Michelin Star Notting Hill Restaurant - what more could you ask for. We arrived and the outside is painted a graveyard grey - on the corner of Westbourne Grove - I was concerned. We walked through the door to be greeted by a welcoming sunny friendly receptionist. We relaxed. The restaurant is small - maybe 80 - 100 seats - which surprised me . Our table - crisp white tablecloth but a big round anchor underneath - which meant there isn't a lot of floor space under the table. On the round two seated tables was a horrible little dome with lavender - the round tables have fresh flowers - it looked tacky. We ordered gin and tonic and a beer - it was 28 outside and we hot. We waited and waited - they brought us little tiny flavorsome dishes to treat - they were wonderful - still no drinks. The finally arrived - the ice machine had broken down. The waiter explained the difficulties they were having in the kitchen with the heat in such a way it was difficult to be annoyed. We ordered the a la carte - it was very good. The food didn't look as wonderful as we expected but surpassed our expectations for flavour. We ordered wine which arrived without fanfare - again that surprised me - 2 stars ? The staff were attentive & friendly. The bill arrived and they had taken off the drinks because we had to wait for a few minutes. It was a very kind gesture. Would I go back - no - not for pleasure - but most certainly for business. We left and felt we had paid a very fair price for a great lunch but just would have liked the free water and fresh flowers on the table? I suppose you can't please everyone all of the time . Nearly .

“Very good food, nice service!”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

To celebrate moving to London we booked ourselves a table at the Ledbury, and we not disappointed. We had the four course set menu - the salmon and the pork were good, but their green beans with foie gras was amazing! The waiter was kind enough to offer us more of the bread and butter (a necessity for those of us with larger appetites) which was most appreciated, especially considering how wonderful the butter tasted!

The pudding was a mix of caramel and a form of alcoholic ice cream in the mould of an exploded black forest gateau, and was lovely.

Very recommended, but give yourself a few hours - you will need it!
