“One of the best meals of my life!”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

We went venture to the Ledbury in Notting Hill for lunch, owned by Australian chef, Brett Graham. It currently has two Michelin stars and is number 13 in the top 50 restaurants in the world. It’s an open, airy space, with tall windows, white walls, high ceilings with recessed lighting, and rich chocolate and gold accents. In the centre of the dining room there is a modern central lighting feature, round and layered in fringes of bone, undulating in colour from marbled chocolate to a dark golden cream. This piece hints at an art deco influence, which is echoed by the wooden panelled columns, wide and flat with rounded edges.

Sam, the maître d’, showed us to our table, and deftly replaced the menus with exclusively vegetarian ones when we mentioned our tastes (also quickly checking that there were no other dietary requirements). We sipped on some Bérèche et fils brut reserve bubbles while making our decisions on our meals, and what a rare and lovely event that was – actually being able to have a choice in a restaurant, rather than simply having the one and only veggie option available for each course. And we had ample choice. In fact, of the 6 dishes on offer, we were told that we could have any of them in any course size. So, naturally, we ditched dessert and had 2 starters and a main each, swapping half way through each dish to give us our own little degustation of 6 exquisite and exciting culinary creations. Starters were: heritage tomatoes with goat cheese, dried olives and green tomato juice; curd of Hampshire buffalo milk with truffle toast and a broth of roasted cepes; new season’s beetroots with salted cherry blossom and red leaves; broccoli stem with natural yoghurt and Indian spices in brown butter. The two mains were: steamed green asparagus with cauliflower and seaweed butter; ‘risotto’ of celeriac with wild mushrooms and parsley. A bottle of Savennières L’Enclos, Eric Morgats 2010 from the Loire saw us through this truly wonderful gastronomic experience.

It is no surprise that this restaurant has received its many accolades, because everything about our experience here was perfect and simple, yet deceptive in that simplicity! We left The Ledbury with a very strong desire to return, and some ‘petits fours’ boxed up to go.

“Tasting menu recommended”
Reviewed September 19, 2013 via mobile

After our wedding ceremony at the Marylebone town hall, my wife and I choose to dine at the Ledbury to celebrate. I had made a reservation three months prior.

I was pleasantly surprised to receive a congratulatory welcome when we arrived. The service was fantastic and couldn't fault it. The staff were friendly and attentive.

The food was well presented and cooked to perfection with each dish bursting with favour. I also liked the way they explained each dish as it was served. We also received a complimentary dessert at the end, which was also a pleasant surprise.

“30th Birthday Meal”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

I came here with my boyfriend for his 30th.

We had a 9.30 reservation on a Sunday and left the restaurant at 1.30 in the morning. The waiting staff were helpful and courteous. The wine guy knew his stuff. The wine list itself was extensive - perhaps a little too much as we didnt know where to start. We didnt feel like we were being ushered out at all, even at 1.30am when we were the only diners in the restaurant.

The food itself was amazing. We had the tasting menu which was brilliant. I don't know what people moan about when they say it wasn't enough - 9 or 10 courses in one evening is plenty. The gap between courses was well timed, not too quick so you feel like a duck or goose being fed up for foie gras (which incidentally was a delicious course) and not too far apart so you are left feeling dissatisfied.

I have a wheat intolerance which they catered for perfectly and we even got an extra course because it was a birthday meal.

We have eaten at many starred restaurants and this was the best we have dined in in this country.

“Seasonal excellence, eat there if you can!”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

The chef is committed to the freshest seasonal ingredients and delivers really excellent food.
The restaurant is well worth seeking out. Wine list is very good but the main focus is the food.
Two Michelin stars thoroughly warranted and one of the best dining experiences in London.
