Description: Tucked away in a tiny courtyard at the heart of the City of London, in the historic Sanderman Port Cellars, The Don is an elegant retreat with superb modern art throughout. Famous for its service and style, as well as its stunning wine list, The Don has won a Wine Spectator Award every year since 2000. Listed in the Hardens, Square Meal and Good Food Guides, The Don is recommended for its modern, quality Gallic cuisine accompanied by London's largest selection of ports and sherries. Bright and spacious, the restaurant's interior is highlighted by its stunning double height wine tower and seven large windows that open up on to the small courtyard. For a truly historic atmosphere, you can also wine and dine in the bistro, previously a wine cellar where Port and sherry were bottled for over 200 years. The cosy dining area has retained the authentic thick-vaulted brick walls and ceiling from this era, and along with its small bar, the bistro is an excellent destination for a relaxed lunch or supper with friends and colleagues.

Visited here on a business trip with 10 other guests. Despite booking in advance they didn't have my reservation when we arrived. A table was sorted 5 minutes later however. The menu was varied and had some interesting twists on classic dining. The veal tartar was amazing and the game mains were cooked to perfection. They have a great selection of wines to accompany. The best part of the meal was the cheese board (scrub) cheese trolley topped off with some vintage port. It did use to be the Sandeman's port cellar after all.

Would definitely go back to the Don. Started at the (associated) bar next door - Sign of the Don, then went in for a lovely dinner. Everything was exquisitely prepared, and I had a very clever starter of large thin slices of carrot and beetroot, lightly warmed. Beautiful colours!

Great list of wines, with a number of inexpensive gems as well as some high end choices. They accidentally delivered a port when one guest ordered a PX Sherry, but they put it right immediately.

And the cheese board is a real treat. What a fantastic selection.

Will definitely be back.

I talk with Chef Gino, he said The restaurant been here 32 years. If you survive in 32 years in same plaice, that 32 years tell all to customers. It is been verything still excellent..

We arrived quite late without a reservation, but that wasn't a problem. The wine menu was great and I choose a Spanish wine which was just right. The food was fab. The venison was cooked to perfection. Finally we decided to have some cheese and port to finish. The choice of cheese is incredible and the waitress took her time to explain the options. Overall the other staff were great.

Great food and service from this French restaurant. Couldn't fault any aspect. I have certainly paid a lot more and not had a meal to this standard
