We had a lovely dinner at the Spread Eagle in Greenwich - it was quiet for a Friday night, but the staff were friendly without being overbearing, and the food was excellent. Unusual menu, beautifully prepared!

“Lots of ambience, delicious food.”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Visited this place yesterday with one of the Groupon vouchers. This meant a two course meal plus a glass of wine for two. Very good value indeed! Immediately on entering you are grabbed by the ambience of the place. From a warming open fire (admittedly gas fired!) but welcoming, nevertheless, from the cold and dank outside weather. We were shown to a nice table near to the window with lovely views of the surrounding area. Comfortable seats, good table linen and a charming waitress. We had caesar salad as a starter and then went on to Lamb Confit served with endive and creme fraiche. We both had a glass of very good red wine. Tap water was brought to the table in a nice carafe with ice. Lots of lovely pictures to look at in the dining room - much of it to do with the maritime history of Greenwich itself. But there were also some lovely playbills showing what was on at the theatre over a 100 years ago - fascinating to read on a trip to the loo and back. The normal price of the set lunch is at the top end but the food we had was certainly worth that. Altogether a pleasant way of spending a lunch in an unhurried atmosphere. The only problem I had was in making a reservation - two telephone calls with answer machine for both did not result in a return call. I finally booked a table via Top Table - that worked well.

“Lovely Lunch”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

My partner and I had lunch here recently and it was superb. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. Don't think its too posh when you go past, we were made to feel very welcome as soon as we entered the restaurant. We had a lovely table by the window. We chose from the 2 course fixed price lunch menu which had a very good selection of dishes and was excellent value. The food was so good we couldn't resist trying a pudding too, which didn't disappoint! We are local Greenwich residents but hadn't visited the restaurant for some time - we will definitely be going back again and soon!

“Don't miss this place”
Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

On our honeymoon for the week, and had been staying at the new Mercure in Greenwich. one night we were looking for a nice romantic place to eat and weren't sure where to go.we nearly walked passed the spread eagle. It looked quite posh, We were greeted by a gentleman who said we could drink in bar area first or he could take us to a table.we had a rable near the window, and it was lovely and warm. We ordered a bottle of presecco and he kindly poured this throughout the night for us.food service was not rushed at all,and not too long, giving us time to chat between courses, the menu is a la carte, and I worried the portions may not be very much, but I was wrong, they were quite substantial !!we had a starter and main each that were delicious, the main was a lamb dish that was cooked to perfection!! We even had a laugh with a group of two guys and a lady in there who kindly got myself and wife a glass of champagne each as it was our honeymoon.
If you want classy setting, top quality food and service, this is the place to go in Greenwich.its not cheap, but then it's worth every penny!!! Brilliant

Booked here at the last minute , table for four. Every course was delicious, of an excellent standard. Attentive staff, lovely ambience, made welcome, not too stuffy, but made to feel special by the two staff waiting. Highly recommend to anyone, good value .
