I was excited to try Marcus. His time at Petrus yielded the best food experience I have ever had but I am sad to report that Marcus has got lazy. To start with the 'revamped' Marcus is insipidly bland and has a tired 70s feel to the room, which is a bad place to start...considering this is supposed to be a 2 star Michelin restauarant. The service to be fair was very good/the one highlight to my trip but I sense that the waiters were just a little dejected by the number of empty tables on, yes, a Friday night. I had the full tasting menu - the first course was a sploosh of this and a sploosh of that - frankly I can't even remember since it wasn't memorable. The same theme continued for the majority of dishes that followed but by the end I was simply dreading the bill. Which was huge. My advice - don't go here (until they sort it out). I have a lot of respect for Marcus and so it pains me to write this review but the fact is that this is a simply a cash cow with none of the pizazz, style (or decor) of the old petrus. This man had a food dream once that I believed in - make me believe again Marcus, please.
