Having trawled through trip advisor and various restaurant sites (and not being able to book some of the big restaurants due to the last minuteness of my booking), I found Odette's. Reading the menu online, although small, it grabbed my attention and I went for it. I went with a friend and my mother, who's interest was immediately peaked due to it's trendy, away for the tourists location. I had the Wood Pigeon to start, it was cooked beautifully and pink and the accompanying flavours were exquisite- the pickled cherries, splattering of fois gras and what I believe to be shredded confit pigeon leg in a light batter was to die for! My mother and friend both had the asparagus with a thin, crisp wafer of an onion tart and some lovely mushrooms (for meat eaters they were extremely impressed by the combination and power of flavours). For mains I had cod with brown shrimp, farfalle and samphire (unfortunately they were sold out of the wild sea trout, and when offered salmon As an alternative I asked for the cod instead, in hindsight maybe I should have just gone with the salmon) but it was so lovely, especially the brown shrimp, definitely to be eaten at least once in your culinary life (very British indeed). My friend had the cod and confit chicken leg, she was mesmerised and thoroughly enjoyed her choice, wonderful. My mother had the duck, it seemed to be half a breast (the fat rendered beautifully), with baby turnips, barley with blackcurrents and tasty fried meaty morsels in the form of gizzards (not to be judged before trying, believe me). My friend had the cheesecake dessert and we all had a try of it, mouthwateringly good, with fresh clean flavours. We tried a couple of wines before deciding on an aromatic light rosé, following this by a glass or two of some delicious dessert wine. Our waiter was a sweetie and we even got to say a quick hello to the head chef (Bryn Williams), who is a real master in my eyes now. Great evening, lovely atmosphere, I will be returning, just hopefully soon.
