Neighborhood: Clerkenwell
Description: It might be one of the hippest venues in one of the hippest parts of the capital but this Clerkenwell restaurant still manages to be relaxed and more concerned with good food than being trendy. The restaurant’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar and open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven is functional but welcoming. The Moorish cuisine complete with subtle European influence is every bit as striking as it was when the restaurant opened its doors nearly ten years ago. Tapas served all day at the bar. “Loved everything!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

I have been wanting to go to Moro for many years & finally managed a lunch in December. Everything from ambiance, service, food & drinks was wonderful. The food really was outstanding & really great portion sizes for one with a healthy appetite! We enjoyed the recommended accompanying drinks for a couple of the courses & they were well worth the money. It was romantic for us two but there were families there too with small children who seemed to be well looked after too! Can't wait to revisit!

“Simply amazing cuisine!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

We were supposed to go to the 'Morito' restaurant next door to this place, but it was fully booked, so ended up here. I was glad we did, the food was fresh, delicious and full of exciting flavours.

Starters:
We had the 'Globe artichoke with fava bean purée, chopped egg, dill and pine nuts', which was my personal favourite out of the two starters. The winning ingredient had to be the pine nuts, something which I've rarely experienced in restaurant food. The second starter was 'Prawn and Seville orange rice' was also good, it had a very sweet interesting flavour when drenched with the accompanying orange slice.

Mains:
'Wood roasted sea bass with braised spinach, moghrabieh and pistachio sauce' - This dish was light, well cooked and the pistachios added an nice contrasting savoury taste.
'Wood roasted black pepper chicken with pumpkin borani and sprouting broccoli' - Out of the entire evening, this was my favourite dish. The pumpkin borani tasted like an indian lentil dish, but not as heavy. Combined with the broccoli and chicken, it was simply heavenly.

Desserts:
'Yoghurt cake with pistachios and pomegranate' - I really didn't like this, it was a mush or cream and eggs with little "cake" inside of it. Having said this, the flavours were refreshing, but the lime / tangy taste was a little overpowering.

'Chocolate and apricot tart' - This is the dessert the go for if you don't want something too sweet. A perfect end to an amazing meal. The smooth texture of the chocolate combined with the subtle crunch of the thin biscuit base was amazing. If anything, a little more biscuit would have made it into perfection!

In conclusion, a must visit restaurant if you're in the area and probably even worth a special visit considering there aren't many places serving up such exciting flavoursome cuisine.

“Only wish we had not had a big lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

We wanted to visit here as we have 2 of their cook books and have used them often. We had, had, a large lunch that day so went for Tapas at the bar. The food was fantastic, we really will come here again for a complete meal. Lovely place and very helpful and friendly staff, we chatted about food and were kindly given some 'hard to find spices'. We will return.

“Fantastic Leisurely Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

We planned to meet with friends for lunch in London and fancied trying something different. I had been bought the Moro cookbook for Xmas a couple of years ago and liked the recipes so decided to book. We had booked for 1 o’clock, but were early, and so actually sat down at about 12:15.

The menu looked great, and we asked the waitress for recommendations for the wine, she also consulted the bar staff. The wines that were chosen were great, and the food was wonderful ( not artistically fancy, but delicious flavours and a good amount ).

As we hadn’t seen the friends for a while we were chatting, and asked for a pause before deserts. We ended up leaving just after 3:30.

The food was great but the service was stellar. From being welcomed with a smile when we were early, to the knowledge and explanation of the dishes, and the care taken in recommending wines. Allowing us to chat but yet being available when we wanted something, they were friendly without being overbearing.

I recommend wholeheartedly and will be back again.

“Pleasant and accommodating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

We had a pre theatre dinner and were a little pushed for time. The manager and staff were very accommodating and prompt with their service, which meant we could relax and not worry about our timing. Food was the usual style and standard that is expected from Moros reputation. We are looking forward to returning for a more leisurely dinner.
