Neighborhood: Clerkenwell
Description: It might be one of the hippest venues in one of the hippest parts of the capital but this Clerkenwell restaurant still manages to be relaxed and more concerned with good food than being trendy. The restaurant’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar and open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven is functional but welcoming. The Moorish cuisine complete with subtle European influence is every bit as striking as it was when the restaurant opened its doors nearly ten years ago. Tapas served all day at the bar. Reservations taken by phone and directly from our website.PLEASE NOTE - Moro restaurant is now open seven days a week. Please refer to our website for correct opening hours

This was our third visit to Moro, the Spanish-Middle Eastern influenced restaurant on the very trendy Exmouth Market in boho Islington. We dented about a starter, because we both wanted to leave room for the excellent yoghurt cake dessert, but hunger (or greed) got the better of us and we ordered a Spanish sausage melange and mixed pimentos filled with cod brandade. While both were lovely, they were also both very minuscule in their serving size, so did not meet the hunger demands in any way. Happily the main courses were excellent (chicken with coriander potatoes and salad, and a mixed vegetable mezze), while the aforementioned yoghurt cake was spectacular. The hard-to-get Alhambra Reserva beer was great too, as were the "Moropolitans", a vodka and cranberry based cocktail. So Moro was up to its previously excellent standard, but we won't bother with the starters next time.

We dined al fresco on a pleasant evening in mid-October. The food really was excellent. Each of us enjoyed our various courses. I really enjoyed exploring their wine list which had a strong Spanish focus, but had quite a few other interesting choices from around the Mediterranean. Service was friendly and quite professional. The location in Exmouth Market was very nice. All in all, this place provided our group of four a delightful evening, and we all recommend Moro very much.

Having booked to see West Side Story at Sadlers Wells, we wanted a restaurant within walking distance and one which catered for early diners. This is one of the best finds ever.

Having lived in London a few years ago, I rarely ventured in to the City and realise how much there is on offer.

Moro has been serving delightful Spanish cuisine for many years and is often reviewed by the food critics with wonderful accolades - now I realise why! Spanish food is one of my favourites and to find authentic Spanish cuisine outside of Spain, has to be exceptional; and it is!

The staff were aware of our theater schedule and we were seated immediately and advised of the specials however, we had already checked the menu on line and had made up our minds in regard to our choices and gave the waitress our order straight away. She suggested a couple of excellent wines too. The wine arrived in 5 minutes and the food within 10 minutes, rustic and plentiful and wow, flavours to die for. My wife had the pork and I had the lamb which were both tender and succulent. The whole restaurant, inside and out, was a buzz with a lot of theater diners and locals and the atmosphere is exciting too!

We would not hesitate to recommend Moro and look forward to visiting again in the near future.

We (a Group of 12) had to eat at two separted tables which was a shame... one other group could sit together next to us and they made a big noise! The food was really delicious but quite expensive compared to others.

The food is sublime. Really, really good. The Ox heart tabulough I had as a starter will stay with me for a long time and everything else was somewhere between good and excellent. So why 4/5? Well there is more than a hint of smugness around Moro now - as if they know better than the customers what is good for them. The front of house is slick, charming at best but always on the cusp of patronising.
I would go again and again to eat but I am now wary of taking people or even recommending in case the way people I care for are treated with apparent contempt.
