“DELICIOUS DADS DAY DELIGHT”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2014

In the absence of our son I took my husband for a Fathers' Day lunch at Loch Fyne in Covent Garden. I had received an email advertising the tempting selection of specials available for this particular occasion and decided we should take a risk and give Loch Fyne what was going to be a final shot. Previously, we had had a very disappointing meal at a branch outside of London but from the moment I rang ahead to say that we were delayed in traffic I was made to feel good about our forthcoming dining experience. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, given a choice of tables and an introduction to who was going to serve us. Shortly after Darius arrived at our table to explain the specials menu and give us the opportunity to order drinks. At no time were we hustled to make a decision. The music playing in the background was at an appropriately low level and very soothing.
I chose 6 plump and juicy oysters as a starter and they were served with a full array of condiments. My husband had lobster bisque and pronounced it delicious. We both opted for surf and turf as a main course. It was not cheap but the rib eye on the bone with half a lobster tail was an absolute treat. I asked for my steak to be rare whereas himself wanted his cremated and each were cooked perfectly to order. The peashoot garnish was a fresh addition and the portion of French fries just right if a little pale. Our choice of Chablis was suitably crisp and light and the jug of tap water elegantly presented. We had no room for pudding or coffee and after a visit to the lovely clean loo we departed feeling very replete. We gathered that there is a new regime in operation at Loch Fyne Covent Garden and for us it delivered in spades.

“Summer in the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014

Loch Fyne is just around the corner from a bustling Covent Garden and literally next to the theatres so an ideal location for both. On a hot (these days unusual for London!) and sunny June day my friend and I stopped for lunch at Loch Fyne. We were warmly greeted and had an excellent table. The menu was excellent and before heading into the food we started on some extremely nice, chilled blush Pinot Grigio. The range of food is really good -we had potted mackerel followed for me, by mussels and salmon fish cakes for my friend. The potted mackerel was lovely, tasty and fresh and the mussels were delicious. A small criticism was that the portion of mussels was rather smaller than I am used to - most restaurants serve large buckets - but the sauce was lovely and came with French fries to mop up all the juices. We were too full for puds but enjoyed a coffee. Good value meal - but if you are using coupons read the small print, we were caught out but a delightfully helpful manager took pity on our inability to read and accepted a coupon in good faith. Given the number of restaurants in the area this was a good choice and we enjoyed the food and watching the world go by from our vantage position.

“Don't rest on your laurels”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014

Greeted with, "No scallops, no oysters, no mussels, no big pieces of salmon." Duh!! It wasn't entirely their fault, as striking taxi drivers had brought London to a halt for 2 hours, but compensation such as a reduction in charges or a free glass of wine would have been nice, and was not forthcoming. When asked what happened to all that good fish, waiter shrugged and answered, "There are 42 Loch Fynes." That complacency ran through the meal, too - it was OK, but not brilliant. Can recommend the fishcake (why only one? Seems a bit mean) but the French fries were a disgrace, pallid and cold. Don't order them.

“Sub Standard Food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

I had queen scallops for a starter off the specials menu but to quote wikipedia "The Queen Scallop, scientific name Aequipecten opercularis, is a medium-sized species of scallop" so why were my scallops smaller than a 10p coin; feeling ripped off to say the least

The lamb rump was stated on the menu to be pink but mine was raw in the middle & only just warm - luckily I like my meat on the rare side otherwise I would have had to send it back.

Come on Loch Fyne you use to serve quality food cooked well

“Deliciously fabulous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2014

Visited for a pre theatre meal and although packed they would have found us a table but we elected to sit at the bar because it was boles to an open door and it was a hot day. Service was really really good and the food delicious. Will certainly now try other loch fyne restaurants and hope they match up.
